Just bought a B7100 with Hydostatic Transmission that does not move. After letting it run for a short time and shuting it down, I noticed that if you remove the transmission filter it has a lot of suction on it. That's the only clue I have so far. Any ideas?

When changing the oil, did you see if there was any brass in the filter or in the drain pan or near the drain plug ? If there is an oil shortage to continue to attempt to move the tractor will cause serious harm to the hydro unit. The critical parts to the hydro are brass and without proper oil pressure they run dry against steel. The worst thing for a hydro is lack of maintence not use. The hydro's normally will out last any clutch and pressure plate as long as the oils and fluids are maintaned. ....

Checked the strainers and they were both clogged with some kind of paper like gook on them. Cleaned them off and I want to at least flush the bottom of the transmission out. Do you recommend any solvent for that?

We would normally just replace with the same fluid and then see how it goes. You might have found the problem and might not need to go any further. To try and rinse with a different fluid leaves residue that should also be flushed out, why waste the fluid or the time. Depending on what happens you might just need to change the filter sooner to to see if there is more debris. ....
