I am new to "real" tractor ownership, (I also have the John Deere built Scotts 2554, a garden tractor) and my question is this: We towed our 955 home and the guy we bought it from locked the 4wd in once it was on the trailer. He went over all the "stuff" it does and the levers - problem is I forgot how to disengage the 4wd Could someone tell me how to do that(no manual) - I don't want to drive on pavement with the 4wd on. The tractor is in semi-retirement with us and I don't want to ruin it - it deserves a rest. (This thing is absolutely fun to drive!!!:-) Everybody thinks I am crazy because I enjoy driving it.
(The previous owner said it was a "96" or "97" I think it is older then that, it has a 70 loader on it.)
Thank for any help you can give.
Amy

lever is on left hand fender, pull in back for 2 wheel, forward for 4 wheel. It may move hard if drive shafts are wound up, just drive tractor back and forth about 10 or 12 feet a few times and it should pop right out. Have fun.

When my Ford is sometimes hard to disengage I lift up the front wheels with the loader. Back and forth is good too.
To disengage, the pedal should be fully depressed. If the clutch pedal has more than around an inch of free-travel at the top then the clutch might be dragging, which also would make the 4wd hard to disengage. An unmatched set of after-market tires or wrong tire pressures also can add to the problem. ....
