Ready for 50 hr. service on Deere 4200 HST. Manual calls for engine oil and filter change but does not mention HST/hydraulic until 500 hours. I've read posts of others doing this at 50 hours. Does anyone with experience or knowledge of this have a recommendation. I hesitate to spend the money on 7 gallons of that J20D fluid and filter if I don't need to.Thanks,Chris

Go ahead and do it anyway. Its VERY important to get the impurities out from break-in. Install a new filter and carefully clean the pickup screen if it has one. Changing ALL your fluids at 50 hr. is the most important time to insure long life of your machine. ....

Just do it. Change the oil and the filter too, Chris. I don't know who wrote the JD spec., but I have plentyof experience in hydraulic systems and I disagree with JD on this. Roger L ....

I changed my oil and filters ( engine and hydraulic) at 25 AND 50 hours just because the machine is new, so there will be certain irregularities and rough spots on the moving parts which wear off fast, and float around in your oil. I change my car oil at mile 1000 when new for the same reason- money well spent in the long run.Paul ....
