I have a 1993 john deere 425 which I bought used recently with all wheel steering and the standard 20hp Kawasaki engine with 1830 hours. The engine uses some oil (about 1/4 pint per hour)and starts fouling the plugs in about 2-3 hours. I am considering replacing/overhauling the engine. Will a Kawasaki FD620D engine from an engine retailer work? Or would anyone recommend a dealer engine overhaul?

If you are mechanically inclined, I would suggest an engine rebuild. It would be cheaper than replacing with a new engine. Plus, you would know exactly what's in the engine and would not be worrying as to whether or not the job was done right. The final decision is totally up to you, though. ....
