I have found a used JD 4200 for sale. It is a '99 model, has a gear transmission, 420 loader/bucket, & rear box blade. Time showing 290 hours. Maintenance has probably been poor. Hood has damage caused (they say) by a falling bag of feed. Asking $12,000 (bottom line may be amount owed, $11,200).
Thanks, in advance, for any comments or advice!!!!

If this tractor has no updates done and poor care,I would
say it's not worth $11000 because new 4200's have big rebates
on them right now.I just bought a new 4wd 4200,hst,w/72"MMM.I hope
it will handle a 72" deck ok?Is there anybody that is happy
with this same setup??? ....

Thanks for the "heads up", DH!!!!!!
I looked at the machine this evening and best four letters I can think of to describe it are R-U-F-F.
It was muddy, the floor boards were deep in lead ropes, screw in eye bolts, nails, and 1 & 1/2 inches of dried dirt and horse manure. The H-M-L gear handle would not move easily, the PTO handle was frozen in the center postion, the bucket had obviously not been cleaned out in days, etc. Certainly not what one might expect of a person selling an $11,000 machine.
We will pass this one by!
Please tell me what you can about rebates.

Good choice Bill, about the rebates I'm not sure I know
what they all are because every dealer I called
had a different rebate(I called about 5 dealers)
but the lowest price was only thing I was after, but
anyway here is the deal I made--new 2001 4200 4wd,hst,
FROPS,rear hyd port,turfs,72"MMM,420ldr with grille
gard,List price was around 24K I paid 18K with 5.9
financing. The dealer also said there was a rebate if I
took the 5.9 financing. This is the best deal I have
seen,I will pick the tractor up in about 2 weeks.
I hope the 72"deck isn't too much for it? ....
