I currently own 30 acres of land. 20 acres pasture, 5 acre woods and 5 acres lawn. I have 6 horses. I also have a 100 acre field next to me that my buddy owns. He lets me spead me manure on this land and therefore need a tractor that can pull a manure spreader. I will also be using this unit with a loader for work such as: Cleaning horse pens, stump and rock pulling, and misc. dirt moving. I will also be mowing my pasture with this unit. Which is better a rotary cutter or fail mower for this app. Terain has some hills and may have small amounts of undergroth(i.e. weeds, small twigs,etc.). I have got a quate that I like on the John Deere 4500 tractor with MFWD, powrreverser trans., bar tread(R1) tires, third selective control valve, power beyond hydralic kit, rear worklight kit, and 3-point hitch draft-sensing kit. Attachments include: 460 loader with hood guard and level indicator also rear ballast box ( 73" bucket and maybe pallet forks), 31B posthole digger, a 45 (6 or 7 foot better) rear blade, and either a 516 rotary cutter or 360 fail mower. Does this sound like a good pakage for my situation. If I get a substance in rear wheels for loader work will this affect other apps. metioned. Your comments appreciated.

Are the either the engine-coolant heater or transmission oil heater needed for my app? It will be stored in barn, used year round, will spread sand in winter with FS1000 broadcast spreader from Landpride. Use broadcast spreader in summer for pasture fertalizing. Will have 6" and 8" drill for 31B posthole digger. How depth options are there fpr the drills. Iam just putting in 4x4 fence posts for horse pens. THANKS. ....

Sure sounds like a nice package! A not a cheap one either.... Lets see....I'm wondering why you are looking at the 4500 rather than the 4600? I forgetwhat the difference is. But I vaguely recall that I liked the 4500 too.I do think you will eventually find a need for somethinga little bigger, like the 5200....but if so, the 4500 with the transmission andthe loader you have picked will probably be worth every penny you paid for iteven if it has been well used. This is the miracle of JD tractors! (you pay forthe depreciation up front :-)I agree with it all except I would go for a smaller loader bucket and the 7' rear blade (rather than the 6'). Be sure to get type of blade with the tilt,angle, and OFFSET adjustments. The blade is very important. Spend money here.Get the end plates for the blade and that will replace a box scraper. BTW, youwill not need the rear weight box if you have a rear implement mounted - which you will. Spend the money on the heavier blade. Pallet forks make sense ifyou ever have to lift a pallet...Sure is hard otherwise. I'd get them if theyaren't outrageous expensive. The first time you order something on a pallet youwill be glad to have them. Items which can be palletized also ship much cheaper. I would go with the brush hog type of cutter and this is the one place whereI would buy other than JD brand. Five foot cutting width. Tire fluid is OK;my own preference is to use wheel weights or chains in icy conditions instead ofthe tire fluid. Be aware that windhield wiper fluid is about 70% as heavy as thecaustic calcium chloride or the expensive and poisonous antifreeze alternative.But wiper fluid is not detrimental. Wheel weights do nearly the same thing, butare very expensive. The main difference in wheel weights vs tire fluid comes about when you aretraveling in road gear. The wheel weights store much less momentum than the tire fluid and IMHO gives me more confidence in my control at high speed (12+ mph!!) on the road. Try it and see what you think. Last thing is the post hole drill. Mine is about 10" to 12" in diameter andhas always been fine for me. Make sure that the three point hitch will lift thepost hole drill well clear of the ground...some long drills on small tractors will not do this. ....

Get the heaters. They are a hundred dollar option on a 20K machine. In real coldweather you will start easily when diesels without them will not start at all.I plug mine in for 30 min. before starting when the temp. is below freezing.Really reduces wear on the parts. ....

Never mind the 5 ft.hog,get the 6 ft.Center to center on the rear tires on thier closest width is 5 ft.The 45 has more than enough to handle it. ....
