I got a new JD 4400 and at present it has 20 hrs on it. When rototilling(JD 660) the tractor smokes a little and a slight deisel smell. At times power drops off from 2500 rpm to 1800 rpm. I am going in low range and stop when rpm drops off. Last year i rented a 855 and did not have this problem. I can't rememberhow big of rototiller was. Is this normal and the soil is to hard? Should I take the tractor in to be looked at? Any help would be appreciated.

Joe I have a JD4400 and a JD660 Tiller and have had no problems as you state. If I set the tiller at its deepest setting and work hard clay soil, it may drop the engine RPM's by 200 RPM's for a short time. Tom ....
