Hello, I have a 1998 1070 with a 440 loader. While tilling a couple of weeks ago I had to pull the scv lever about every 10 minutes to keep the loader from running into the ground. I do hope this problem can be rectified with a simple fix. Possibly changing out a valve? The tractor is plumbed with the power beyond for the backhoe. When the tractor is not running the loader will stay at any height I choose. I have noticed that when the backhoe is on it also leaks down. If anyone has a solution I would be grateful.

Off hand, I'd guess that the lift control valve isn't sealing the cylinder completely when centred. Vibration etc. during operation is jostling the valve and allowing the cylinders to leak down. You might try disconnecting the lift hoses, or swapping the lift and bucket hoses to see if it still leaks down. However, it is curious the hoe also is leaking down since that would be operating from a separate SCV assembly (I'm assuming that it's the hoe boom that is leaking down and also only when the tractor is running). Guess I don't have a ready answer, but I did clear up some small oddities in my hydraulics when I changed the oil and filter. Changing the oil and filter might be a good idea if you're not sure of its condition or it's near a scheduled change. ....
