Hey All,I have been looking at the blue, green, and orange compacts and think I have decided on the 790JD due to power/price. will prob order with 4WD, loader, and R4's. Forgot to ask dealer if HST trans is available. This would be usefull with loader but I guess I can live without if not available. I was set on the TC18 until a JD dealer let me do a little Bush-hogging with one he had taken in on a trade (had 35hrs on it) previous owner traded it in on a 790. there was a big diff between these two tractors I was disappointed with the boomer. I did like the ergonomics on the boomer and also on the 4XXX's but they did not seem to be as good of a deal as the 90 series. please feel free to make any comments about these tractors. I will be making a purchase within the next month or two. have 5 acres, may expand to 10..will be clearing about 3 acres for horses. if buy 5 behind me will have about 7 acres of past.thanks for any info.

My opinion is the 790 is the best buy available if it meets your needs and you don't mind the gear transmission. ....

I bought the same setup (790, R4, Loader) about 6 months ago. I love the tractor, but have to agree the ergonomics could be better. A hydro would be nice, but I could not afford one in another brand that had the same HP as the 790. Also, I feel the gear will probably last longer.
Have fun. ....
