Why do 5 year old 955's with loaders sell for more than 1-2 year old 4200's? Same features, 4WD, hydro, hours, PTO's, tires, etc. What am I missing about the two machines? The more I look at what to buy the more confusing it gets!

I don't know. If it was the 970 I could understand it better. When you say the same features do you mean that both tractors have loaders? A used 955 in good shape with a loader is probably going to sell for the price of a new 4200 which doesn't have a loader. I'm sure that you know that tractors are aged by operating hours rather than by year of manufacture. A low hour tractor kept up does not depreciate much for being five years old. They are built to last for decades. ....

Both with loaders, I hate the price range ($15-17000) I'm in. Both used and new about the same price, used might have a deck but new will have warranty. Do I go for accys or warr. if there is problems? AAAAHHHH! ....

I have a 1995 JD 955 that i bought new with 72 inch grooming deck, 70A loader and 5 foot tiller. It is simply the best loader tractor I have ever operated. Service is easy. Only complaint is the battery is tucked into an awful tight place in the front of the machine. Also you get blasted bug guts on the under side of the hood that get beat off the radiator fan. My brother in law just got a new 4400 with Loader and Backhoe after just 30 minutes of operating my 955. He traded in a JD 2955 with loader for that machine and likes it much better.

Tom, your 955 would sell for about $16,000 to $17,500 here in MI. A new 4200 w/just a loader would be $17,500 at best. ....
