Trying to finish implement decisions for the JD-4300 I'm buying. My original plan was for a rear blade for snow removal, rear box scraper for 600ft gravel driveway maint. , front loader for misc lifting , and rotarty cutter (bush-hog) for 5 acres brush mowing 3 or 4 times a year. I was planning on keeping my commercial 52" ZTR mower (Exmark Laser Z) for weekly finish mowing a couple of acres aroung the house.*** Now I wonder if I could cut the "brush" areas of my wooded property with a rear mount finish mower and do the weekly finish mowing with it as well -- thus selling the ZTR. My 20 acres is mostly wooded and I will only maintain the clearings that account for about 5 acres. I don't plan on clearing any more ground for now -- just keep the grass and briars trimmed several times each year. Any input is welcomed!!

I can tell you my experiences with JD 855/955 series tractors -similar size to JD 4300, with the belly mount mower. These do a nice finish mowing job, and are tough enough to handle the trail clearing and pasture mowing jobs if the discharge chute is flipped up, and you don't have trees to contend with. 10 years of doing this have proven reliable, haven't even had to replace a deck belt!. For good finish mowing, set the gauge wheels correctly and have sharp blades, you'll get as nice of a job as with a larger garden tractor, maybe better since the long wheelbase and large tires float over the humps and bumps better. That's with turf tires. I've only imagined the difficulty of manuvering with a rear mount trim mower, and haven't tryed it, but aren't tempted to, either.For driveway care, I've found that an ARPS rake or Land Pride does a nice job, if you don't actually need to move much material, just rearrange it.Good luck! ....

Scott, be forwarned! Front end loaders are like pick up trucks. Once you have one you'll never be without one. I have a little JD 675 w/model 60 front end loader. My second tractor. Frist one had a loader too. See what I mean? ....

Scott; You said in an earlier post "the JD is very competitivley priced around here". Where is here? Just wondering, I live in Maine. If you where close I would consider traveling for a good price.ThanksDavid ....
