I have a 955 deere that locks up the steering and hydrostat controls once in a while after a few hours of use. If I let the tractor set for about an hour, everything will work again. Anyone ever had such an experience? Any ideas??? Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with the hydraulic flow diagram for your JD, but if the hydro charge pressure oil is supplied by return oil from power steering, a problem i the power steering motor (valve) could cause your symptoms. Unless someone has experienced this exact problem, or an experienced JD service person can quote chapter & verse from a shop manual, it will be hard to fix this problem without performing test on the tractor. ....

There is a hydraulic strainer on the 55 series tractors you need to check. I had an 855 with similar problems. Just above the PTO shaft there is a fittingheld to the tractor by 3 or 4 bolts, it has a larger rubber connected to it. Dis-connect the hose and then the bolts and pull the cover. There is a hydraulic fluid strainer in there that may need cleaning. Change your hydraulic filter too. There is no need to buy another strainer, just clean the one you have. Hope this Helps.Brent ....
