I have a MT180HD 4WD Mitsubishi compact tractor. I mow appx 5 acres a week. The drive pedal is hard to maintain a constant speed without your knee and leg suffering from the constant downward pressure. The hand cruise control linkage was disconnected, and when I ordered and replaced it, it would not lock into position to maintain a steady rate of speed. Any suggestions - the hour meter shows around 2000 hours. Parts are not available in my area (upstate NY - Binghamton) HELP

Ted,I do not have an answer for you, but I have a similar problem. I have a new 4300 and it takes a fair amount of force to work the hydro pedals. My cruise works, but there are times when it is not practical. After cutting a couple of acres in between the trees, I have the knee cap version of carpal tunnel syndrom. Perhaps someone has some suggestions. Adjusting the seat to get a better angle may help the fatigue a bit. ....

I have a 4200 with the same problem. I have suspected that the pressure required is heavy for safety (read liability) purposes. With the kind of pressure that's required, it's hard to say that the pedal was inadvertantly pushed or depressed. That's why cruise control is not an option but standard equipment. Hard to say that your foot slipped off the brake and accidentally floored the forward or reverse hydro pedal. My guess. ....

In January I bought a NH TC18. The pedal on that seemed stiff...so I I greased the daylights out of the pedal pivot and then went after the linkage to the valve,which led to the valve. The valve itself was very tight and silcon spray appeared to help conciderably. Not so bad now. Jerry ....

I would recommend looking into the CTB archives, it seems many guys have the sameproblem. The fix also seems to stem from the same problem. Appearantly the dealersaren't lubing the various mechanicals associated with hydro's. After receiving myJD 4100, I spent a little time to find every greasable fitting, and lube area. Making surethat they were properly lubed, just in case. The poor weather, right after receiving the unit probably helped that initial walk through service procedure quite a bit.Anyway, the 4100 pedels are as smooth as silk. And it sounds as if quite a few of you have units that the dealer forgot to lube certain parts and/or adjust any linkage thatmight be causing a bind. Might not be much help, but its worth a shot:) ....

Be careful what you spray on the seals or any rubber. Some sprays may be cut with solvents, which will reduce rubber life, possibly through cracking. You may not notice any deterioration for years, but it could happen. ....

You are correct....before I purchased the lub, I checked with my local NAPA guy to verify that it is was safe with hydraulic seals. Jerry ....

Good Point!I use clean motor oil, as spec'd in the manual. Not as convenient as a spray,but very in-expensive, with no threat of deterioration. Adding to that, I had a special chain spray/lube that was real good at pitting my aluminum wheels on myQuad, I would assume it could do the same to paint. ....
