 What is this one worth?

I own a Yanmar 276D, bought new in Michigan in the late 80's. 2300 hours. One owner. Very nice condition. The tractor is in Ohio.
I'm thinking of retiring early and moving south.
I have no idea how much to ask for this.
Any ideas?

Just on the face of it, and understanding that any item that rare and that old is worth what someone will offer for it, I'd say in the $4000-$6000 range.

What makes this model so rare?
Because it is a US model?

DieselPower,

Your Yanmar 276D is valuable because of two important things..

First off, it was intended for sale on the U.S. market....meaning that it likely has a rollover protection system (ROPS), a seatbelt, flashing hazard lights, and a place to hang a slow moving vehicle (SMV) sign.

Produced for the U.S. market, there's literature available, in English, which most grey market tractors don't have. Parts manuals, as well as shop manuals, are available through most Yanmar USA dealers. Parts are easy to get, making this tractor highly desirable.

The 276D is one of the bigger and heavier Yanmars, weighing in at just over 2300 pounds...give or take a little. This makes it very useful for heavier work, especially when using it with a loader. It's bigger size makes it comfortable for most operators, in that there's plenty of legroom available, even for the larger fellas.

Your Yanmar 276D also has a thermostat built into the cooling system....which is a rather rare feature on the earlier Yanmars. Most Yanmars of that period didn't have thermostats. It also has a slightly larger horsepower rating than most tractors of that period.

Yanmar tractors hold their resale value very well. If you bought your tractor new in the early 1980s, you might have paid about $10,000 for it. More than 20 years later, your tractor is still worth about 60% of its original price......depending upon condition, upkeep, tires, etc.

Joel

You sure know your Yanmar's. Everything you said about my tractor was right on the money. This one was bought in 1988 for $10,500.
Now I need to find a buyer.
Thanks for the help.

DieselPower,

I visited several dealers before I bought my latest tractor.

One dealer had a used Yanmar 276D on the lot at the time. The owner of that tractor also happened to be visiting the dealer that day, which gave me the opportunity to learn a whole lot about it.

Don't ask me about most other Yanmar tractors!

Glad I could be of some help.

Joel

I take it you did not buy the 276?
I had a 1610 before I bought this one.
It is like night and day.

DieselPower,

I went back to look at that Yanmar again, but it had been sold.

It was a very nice machine, and obviously well cared for. The paint wasn't faded at all, and every hose, fitting, and wire appeared to be either factory original, or a factory replacement.

The man who owned it was a retired farmer, in his late 70s, and it was obvious that he knew a whole lot about it.

Somebody got themselves a fine tractor.

Joel

Dieselpower, are you 100% sure you will not want the tractor when you move? We really use them a lot in the South. Not too much on snow blowers mind you. kt

 What is this one worth?

My goal is to move to FL and not need a tractor, only a golf cart.
