1991 1720 New Holland glow plugs

Trying to find a fuse diagram. The glow plug light on my panel never lights..at all. Any way to test the glow plug? Is it even fused? I have the manual, but it doesnt show any of that info. Thanks

Mike

Also, Wanted to include. There seems to be a common bar that runs to all 3 glow plugs. When I turn the key to warming position. I do get 11.87 volts DC on all three positions. Is it possible for the plug to go bad even though it is getting voltage?

Thanks again

Migman,

Even though you have voltage to the glow plugs, they could still be bad.

In order to see if the glow plugs are actually working, you'll need to do an amp draw test on them. If current is flowing through each of the glow plugs, you then know that they're working. You'll need to read the DC current on each glow plug wire (It should be about 10 amps DC per glow plug......or about 40 amps total). You'll need a clamp meter for this test.

I much prefer to test the glow plugs using an infrared temp gun. It's easy to do.....just takes a few seconds. Better yet, the temp gun can be used to find bad bearings, faulty U-joints, as well as testing floor heating systems. It's a very useful tool. I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner.

Cycle the glow plugs for about 20 seconds. Hold the temp gun about 8 inches away from the glow plug, then test the temp of each individual glow plug. You'll instantly know if you have any bad ones. (within about three seconds for the entire test)

I've posted a link to a decent infrared temp gun below. (You can get better ones) It's well worth the money.
