I have just learned from my dealer's service manager that my '98 JD 445 with 122 hrs. has a broken camshaft. The camshaft on the 22HP Kawasaki engine is made of plastic!! I has seen at least one posting of 425/445 broken camshafts.I am going to extend my warranty because of this event.If anyone has had this problem with their JD tractor, please post. Maybe we can get Deere to take some action.

The replacement camshaft has a steel gear and this will no longer be a proplem for you. ....

Yes, I just got the tractor back from the dealer and he said he replaced the camshaft with a new one with a steel gear. My engine date of manufacture is 2/98 so I assume all older 445's have plastic camshaft gears. ....
