Looks like somebody has been feeding steroids to that Deere. The radical change depicted in the photo brings to mind several questions: When changing tire sizes on a 4wd tractor(where front and rear sizes are different), how difficult is it to determine the right tires to use? Also, going to a much larger diameter tire(and making no other drivetrain changes) should alter the speed/power characteristics of the machine. What is the new top speed of the 4100 and has there been any discernable loss of power in the lower gears?

Top speed is just under 16 mph, and yes there is a huge difference in power in the higher gears but this tractor might still suprise you in the lower gears. When spraying, it is working at five to six mph while towing a 200 gal. sprayer w/tandem axles and an 18 row boom. Handles it very well. When customizing MFWD tire sizes, you calculate the ratio of the factory tires, based on the rolling radious, front vs. rear, then apply that ratio to the new rear tire to find the correct front tire. Any tire store that deals in ag tires can do this calculation for you and translate the rolling radius to an actual tire size.
The reason such tall tires are used for this application is simply for crop clearance. Onions will be damaged if they are scuffed just prior to being sprayed.

Murf: Thanks- I did not catch the date. I have a JD 750 and need a lot more ground clearance. I was interested in what rims he was running (I was guessing 24"?) Mine are the 6 lug. Thx- Dave
