I accidently connected the battery with the key in the on position. Something is fused. Is there a relay possibly or did I ruin the starter solenoid? Thanks.

Stone,

I believe your problem may be fairly simple.

When you connected the battery terminal with the key on, your starter solenoid probably engaged. In doing so, it has probably welded the contacts closed.

Take a rubber mallet and strike the starter solenoid a few times, in an attempt to free the stuck contacts.

Contacts in relays and solenoids will weld themselves together when there is a loose connection on the wiring, as this causes a huge increase in the amp draw. When you placed the battery cable on the battery, the initial amperage draw was likely much higher than normal, due to this loose connection.

You could have welded together the contacts in the switch, any relay, or the starter solenoid. Start with the solenoid and work your way back.

Joel

Unhook the 1 or 2 small wires at the solenoid (maybe yellow) if it turn over when you hook the battery up, it's the solenoid. If not it's the switch or a hot wire shorted to the (maybe yellow) small wire that goes to the solenoid.

Turns out to be a relay on the little circuit board on the ignition switch module. I found both relays at Mouser for $6 usd. I replaced both. At least it wasn't the solenoid. Regards. ....

Stone8,

Thank you for reporting back. It's always nice to know how these problems turn out, so that others have a place to start searching.

Glad to hear you got it going again.
