Tom, I have read your comments on this project in the past. Can you explain what situation you are trying to improve with this relief pressure adjustment. Just curious.

Also, I recently purchased a NH TC30 which is basically a carryover from the 1620, 1710 machine. I have found that the power steering does'nt have enough power to turn the wheels with the FEL loaded if I am sitting still. If I have a little forward or rearward motion then I can steer just fine. Is this how your steering behaves?

Like most 'tractor guys', I receive great satisfaction from doing a job myself with the tools I have available. But, every now and then I meet my match and have to concede to the skills and superior (bigger) tools of a professional. What I'm trying to say is that it seems that you have tried all that you can. Maybe it's time to rent a big backhoe machine or even pay someone with a bigger machine to come and do the job. Also, as Tom alluded, maybe these posts are set in concrete? I have cut some off with a torch but I was also able to dig down a few inches below grade and make the cut there and then backfill. Good luck.

I recently purchased my first hydrostatic compact (NH TC30 30hp). I have found that when pushing the loader bucket into a pile I can spin all four tires in low range. In high range or medium I can't spin the tires even in two wheel drive. I have tried using the smallest amount of pedal pressure all the way up to pushing it down all the way (which stalls the tractor). I am not too impressed. If I have to shift to low range each time I fill the bucket and then shift back to med or high range for transport, whats the point in having hydro?

Oh, maybe I did'nt explain that well. What I mean is that I can't get enough power to the wheels to fill the loader bucket in med or high range. The tractor just sits there. No spinning. No forward motion. Low range handles it just fine.

Wow, TomG, you know alot about hydraulic systems. I have scoured my local libraries and online book stores for information on hydraulics and/or fluid power. I have never been able to find one. Certainly, there must be a book out there somewhere to teach us 'dummies' the basics about hydraulic systems.

OK, while I'm at it, I'll mention that I compared the L3000DT, JD790, and NH TC30. I bought the New Holland TC30 because I could opt for HYDRO (I did). Compared to the others the NH TC30 has a wide-open, roomy, operator area. I paid $15,100 for 4x4, turfs, hydro, loader. You could come down to about $14,000 with gear drive. Drive all three and you'll see what you like best.

The TC30 competes with the Kubota L3000DT and the John Deere 790. All of these machines are the lower-cost entry with 30 hp each. The one thing that the TC30 offers (option) that Kubota and Deere don't offer is the hydro trans.

Tom, what concerns me about using a chian is not the chain breaking, which I agree is unlikely. My concern has been the common situation when the grab hook on the chain is not in the right position to maintain its grip on the chain. IE, you start pulling and the hook comes loose. I don't think I'll debate the physics of this as it seems to generate some hostility. I will simply be cautious and aware and try to keep myself safe when using a chain.

Sorry, can't find the thread that listed the exact rebates. For comparison, I was quoted $16,500 for a TC29D with loader, R4 tires, and heavy duty bucket. This tractor included an 'aged stock' discount. That means its been on the dealer lot for over six months. I think any TC25's (discontinued) that are still hanging around are 'aged' or getting close.

Based on what I've seen since the new rebates came out last friday, the price you received is an example of the great deals that NH is offering till the end of the month. I plan to buy one myself before the end of the month.

The 4300 has 2500 psi hydraulics. The 990 has 2262 psi hydraulics. The psi gives you the power. The flow tells you how fast it can apply that power. Unless you can increase the system pressure on the 990, you're gonna have to settle for less power (lift). This, of course, only applies because you are comparing the exact same loader on two different machines. (disclaimer)

The price you listed is about $1,000 cheaper than the prices I've seen lately. NH just released new dealer incentives last friday and from my calculations the discount has been passed on to you in this deal. I got a price within $200 of yours on the same setup without the supersteer.

You've really opened a can of worms here dcs.

My opinion... the R4's are not too bad on turf in most situations.
I have found, even with turf tires, that any damage that does
occur results from the front tires. I'm gonna see if I can get
R4's on the back and a properly sized turf tire on the front
when I get my new tractor. I know, sounds crazy, but I've
always been a little off the beaten path.

I recently saw an 870 (28hp version) with loader and backhoe in perfect condition for $18,000 (400 hrs).
The 1070 is a great tractor but it and all the accessories would have to be in near-perfect condition mechanically and cosmetically to justify the price on this rig.

A dealer near me has a 1070 right now with 1100 hrs and
loader. The machine is in good to excellent shape. He
is asking $13,500. The accessories you mentioned would
add about $10,000 to this price. But again, they would
have to be in great condition. (like new, maybe)

I'm sorry, my final vote... No bargain.

I was driving a TC29D on the dealers lot today and noticed that it would'nt go very fast in reverse in any range.
(hydrostatic) I wonder if there is a limit screw set at the factory for safety. When I bought my zero-turn mower it would not go very fast in reverse either. The dealer said that they were limited at the factory for novice operators in both forward and reverse speed. He showed me how to adjust the limits and now I cruise at top speed. I wonder if the TC29D hydro would adjust in the same way?

For comparison: The TC30 hydro (economy tractor) cruises just as fast in reverse as forward.

Well, I finally took the next logical step in my quest for a new tractor. I sold my old one. I got $5,000 for my JD650 4x4 and now I'm ready to get serious about a new one.

I pretty much settled on a NH TC30 economy tractor, hydro, 4x4, loader, HD bucket. I got a price of $16,000 from the dealer on this package. Well, when I called about finalizing the deal he offered me a TC29D for $16,500. This is a full featured deluxe machine with all the bells and whistles. He said it just became considered 'old stock' because he's had it since september. This, he tells me, is how he is able to offer it at this price. I haven't priced TC29D's but I sure have priced TC33D's ($18,500 currently). Seems like a good deal on this machine.

Any thoughts or comments?

Tom, the dealer is holding the line about the $12,500 price even after I showed him an ad for a distant dealer offering the same machine for $7,500. I saw one of these sell on Ebay two weeks ago for $8,500. Both tractors had a loader, 4X4, and Hydro. Oh well, it's his tractor and he can ask whatever he wants for it. But for me, I'll keep looking.

I have a 1996 product brochure for the 955. Here is what it says. 33hp net, 87.3 cu in. This engine produces its hp at a relatively high rpm (3,200 rpm). The 4400 produces 35.7 gross hp at 2,700 rpm. It's displacement is 101 cu in. This data is taken from product brochures. Your machines may be different depending on the year.
