TC40D here with FEL and 75hrs on the machine. Love it so far!. One complaint thought, there is a foam gaurd under the radiator that has fallen out and lets alot of debris into the radiator. other than that its great!

One word of caution about tiltmeters. Even if you were on a hillside that felt safe at say 20%, that doesn't mean that it will always be safe. As everyone probably knows, ground conditions i.e. have we had rain, speed of the tractor, and unseen obstacles like bumps, can all play a huge part in a rollover. I had a rear wheel jump up one day after hitting a small bump (steered down the hillside to get the tractor to set back down) and I had been on the same hill hundreds of time before.

Makes a guy think doesn't it. I know I am always very cautions when mowing around my lake. There have been several occasions when I will not mow it because of dew on the grass. This is from a similar incident, to the tragic story, when my tractor slid almost 90deg before it finally caught traction. And this happend on a hillside I had been mowing for several years. So needless to say I felt it was a safe palce to mow. It always seems the things we never expect get us. BE CAREFUL!

sounds like a good price to me, I paid within $100 of that when I bought mine in may. can't remember the exact prices, but was something like 16402 for the 40D with r4's, 3450 for loader, a 250 charge for HD bucket and 400 for toothbar.

Its been my experience that the rude dealers are usually the higher priced ones. I've never figured out how these places stay in business, but somehow it seems they are always the ones that do.

I own a NH TC40D witha 16la front end loader. I know this isn't a Deere, but I am positive it is much more stable on hillsides with the loader removed, and I haven't added any front weights. I started to mow the dam on my lake with a brush hog, and after the first pass I decide to remove the loader. It was definately more stable, and I had the bucket practically hitting the ground. I would recommend moving the wheels to the farthest possible outward position. I did this with my tractor and it made a huge difference. As you stated, I'm sure they can handle alot more hillside than I'm willing to tolerate, but safety is always the best answer.

Beware of the weld that holds the spring tensioner lever arm in place. My Woods RD7200 has been a good mower, but there was a cold weld on the pivot pin for the tensioner arm. This took 8 mos to break, but it did break. Luckily it was covered under a warranty repair, and they replaced the resulting broken belt for free. Don't get me wrong, I believe this is a quality mower, but that is a potential problem area. Mark

I found out why my belt broke. After purchasing a new belt and starting to install it, I noticed that the tensioner pulley seemed very wobbly. Upon inspection I found a broken weld on the Pin that acts as the pivot point for the tensioner lever. It appears that this weld was never fully finished at the factory. It looks as though it were only tacked in place. This is very disapointing for me because the mower is not yet a year old, and I have been very diligent in maintaining it properly. I have also never mowed in grass that is extrememly deep etc. I'm hoping this was just bad luck and not the norm for Woods products. Anyone else ever heard of this happening?

It pretty much depends uopn several factors. Hrs on the tractor, general condition of the machine, market acceptance of the machine, age of the machine etc. Usually just like with car, the first couple years take the biggest hit. Then after that a tractors value goes down very slowly. I owened a 1996 Cub Cadet 7232 witha 72" belly mower. I bouth this machine for 12,500 new. I sold it just this year (5yrs old) with 600hrs on it. I got 8,000 for it on a trade. I was happy with that price.

I also use my 3rd srv. for my log splitter and am somewhat concerned about debris entering my hydrualic system from it. Does anyone know of an inline Hydraulic filter one could hook up that you wouldn't have to worry about bursting? I think one on the return side would work fine (which is where you'd want it anyway) but im not 100% sure. Anyone know what kind of pressures are on the return side?

I can tell you one reason is customer support. I made the mistake of buying a CUB 7232 and it was a nightmare. It would routinely take 3-4 weeks to get in parts when needed. THe lift mechanism for the 72" belly mower was very very underdesigned. Mine would break after about 25hrs of use. Needless to say wby the time I had 600hrs on the tractor I bought a 3pt mower cause that was cheaper than replacing parts all of the time. After buying the 3pt mower then the 3pt pivot pins broke 2 times in one season. That was a $50 repair each time. I didn't abuse this machine at all. If anything I babied it for fear of it breaking again. The New Holland I just bought only has 50 hrs so far, but nothing has broke and I've been trying to. LOL

I do not have the SS option. It is just a standard TC40D with a 16LA loader. I breifly looked at the front end this weekend and saw no "stops" or "adjustment" options that could fix the problem. I have noticed that the problem only occurs when the loader is installed. During my daily use without the loader the interference never occurs. I'm puzzled. Maybe its time for a dealer visit.

The 35/40/45's all have a brace that ties the front and the rear of the tractor together when a loader is installed. There is one brace on each side made from I believe 1/2" plate steel that is about 6 inches wide. Off the top of my head I don't recall how the loader itself is attached to the tractor.

Tim, Definately get the HD bucket on your loader, and the grill gaurd is probably a good Idea Also. I did not purchase the grill gaurd and I have already put a small crease in the mesh on the grill. Only have 35 hrs on my tractor so far. As far as the 35 vs. 40, I believe either have plenty of power, but I opted for the 40 when I bought mine and I'm extremely happy with it. I owned a 3cyl tractor before this and the 4 cyl is noticeably smoother. Also the 40 and 45 models have slightly more 3pt lift capacity if I remember correctly. I also recommend the R4 tires vs. Turf. I previously owned turf tires and when I got my TC40D I opted for the R4's. I'm much more pleased with the industrials over the turf, and they don't tear up the ground any worse unless you are turning very fast and sharp. I do bog the tractor down from time to time while climbing hills in High range but a simple switch (the dual power switch) to the Turtle mode, or a gear change into the low side and the machine does fine. So far I've been very happy with the machine, only problems I have had were installation problems with the loader that the dealer has fixed. They had accidentally pinched a colant line under the loader brace, forgot two bolts that hold the loader control to the fender, and some the the loader connections were leaking hydrualic fluid. Also when I turn full left the left front tire can contact the loader fram, not sure if this is an adjustment problem or what yet. I need to check it out closer. I'm rambling on now, good luck with your purchase. BTW I paid 16402 for the tractor and somewhere between 3500 and 4000 for the loader with HD bucket and toothbar.

Interesting discussion, a couple years ago I was looking at the New Holland TC25 and TC29 Compacts and noticed that they were the exact same engine. Same Bore and Stroke virtually identical except the 29 was rated at 2800 RPM and the 25 was rated at 2600 RPM. I called New Holland on this and they actually admitted the only differences between the two tractors were fuel delivery settings. Of course they wouldn't tell me how to set the 25 to make it a 29, but it sure is a cheap way for them to sell a compact for $800 more than another tractor that is identical. Gotta love them Marketing guys.

I also own a Land pride 1558, so far its been great and I till in very very hard cly type soil. I was sold on the landpride when I saw two rental yards using them as their rental equipment. I figure if they held up to rental use they would be great for me. BTW I paid $1650 for mine, Dang it!!
