Chris I have a 4300 w/12x12 syncreverser and I really like it also thats the only trans. the comes with creeper gear in it for free.You pay a good deal more for creeper in any other trans. It is great for going down steep hills or pulling plows and such. Ken

Ed I have alot of hilly ground and often felt unsafe.Iwent to ag tires 7x16 frt. and 12.4x24 rear and it went out to alittle over 67".I have a 4300 12x12trans. 4x4 and 430 FEL. I like the bigger tires with wider stance alot better.Ken

George if its not to late--- check on the larger tires (7x16 frt. & 12.4x24 rear ag tires) its as wide as you can go and with the hill you mentioned you won't be sorry.They are bigger and wider and alot more stable.I use them and don't have any problems except in real wet ground they will make tracks but will go away in no time.ken

Guys,I'm sure the CTB has helped in many ways.But like it has been said many times there are a lot of us who have had no help at all. I have a 4300 JD built on August 2 1999(just 9 months old ).I contacted my dealer and he in turn contacted the field rep. and the field rep. said I didn't get the axel.So I e-mailed John Deere and ask them about it again and just received e-mail back saying I couldn't have the axel because I didn't have a belly mower.Wish I knew how to post these letters on the board.Then I think more people would really see what a great company John Deere is and how helpful they are in our buyer -- seller relationship.You should all read their literature about when you buy their tractor, your not just buying a machine,your starting a working partnership.Look hard at the company behind the tractor you buy---that's the John Deere Advantage.BTW the rearend has gone out twice in 50 hrs.Ken

Scott, I use water-antifreeze and it works very well. Not as heavy but will do the job just the same.If you go to www.gemplers.com you can see and order the tools to do this job .The one I use cost about $8.00.You will need a few things to get started.A small pump(like one that fits in a drill)and a couple pieces of garden hose and the tool that screws on the valve stem.Try to keep the fluid up above the tire so gravity will help.Go slow and push the button on the tool every so often to let the air out.Keep the water away from the drill! Fill so the mix is up to the top of the rim.Take the weight off the wheel.Thats it. It takes awhile ! Good Luck -Ken

G Walls,I have used a 770 and a 4300 to do that task.I had a ballest box and loaded tires.It takes time and if you run into big rocks it can take longer.

Andy,I was a proud owner of a 4300 12x12 with loader and 4wd.After the
rearend went out at 25hrs.pushing brush (they fixed it in about 21 days)
they had trouble getting parts.Only to have it go out again at 50hrs.They
had it for 19 days the second time.
Now we find out the front axel in the 4000 series is not to good.My
dealer told me that they couldn't replace mine because I didn't get a
belly mower with the tractor.
So I'm still the owner but not so proud. Ken

Craig, try to heat the coupling with a torch,burnsamatic or hair dryer.You can heat it very hot without any damage to the spline.Just don't take to long so the heat is concentrated on coupling and not the spline shaft.The heat will expand the coupling ( most ) times you can tap it off with a hammer.Hope this helps.KenW

Really---- what diference does it make anyway wheather your 4000 series
tractor scuffs? If they admit they have a bad axel why not change them

Terry my 4300 is just now 5 months old.I'm not sure that means an older
mod.Also according to the older posts -- it has nothing to do with a
mowing deck. The tractor scuffs anyway. However I will discuss this with
my dealer as you sugest.I would like to have that front axel. Thanks Ken

We really need a tractor! - don't know where to begin....<br>We have 30 ac. of New England woods with house and two barns <br>including 3 ac. of bumpy pasture - we would like to increase to about 6 ac.<br>Remove topsoil / site prep for barn / garage and new house<br>Possibly limited excavation for house foundation<br>(Once I get the tractor/loader can I rent the attachments? )<br>Move fallen logs and small rocks (many!)<br>Haul firewood<br>Move, maintain and spread manure pile<br>Maintain and improve woods road and drive (1/2 mile max.) <br>Maintain horse areas and some trail area improvements<br>Yard maintenance including redoing 1.5 ac. of existing lawn, smoothing and filling and mowing<br>Snow removal (once or twice a year these days)<br>spin a generator when the power goes out (hurricanes, etc)<br>So far all I know about tractors is:<br> 1. I like the looks of a 4 wd 1710 or 1720 (?)<br> 2. Saw an ad for a Rhino 22 hp for $5500. with loader and 4wd<br> 3. Stumbled upon this web site - forget the Rhino.<br>I really need to keep the budget low (way below 10K, have new baby, baby needs new house) I�m willing to fore-go all creature comforts and would consider a much older machine if one exists that would be considered �dependable�. KIOTI has caught my attention as a possible new purchase - I just don�t see how I could afford a Kubota or JD at this time. I�m looking for advice. Is this do-able? I think you will find that the axel used in the 4300 JD is made by Funf Inds.not Dana.I am sure the rear axel is Funk and owned by JD.
