It's a live independent PTO, or live continuous, they are the same thing. What you gain with this type PTO is that the pto driven implement won't push the tractor after you depress the clutch. In other words, it's got the type pto you should go with. Good luck.

I have ordered the plans and built one of the model 808 backhoes for my 1070 JD
It was a very worth while project, and the machine works really well. I have dug up several big pine stumps so far and and am pleased with the results.

I'm no expert, but isn't skidding with a lightweight tractor on the dangerous side? From what I understand, if a log catches on something, the rear wheels may stay put and the tractor could

If you look at commercial forestry skidders, they have a lot of weight forward and also lift the front of the logs clear.
Again, maybe I'm all wrong, but I wanted to pass the thought along.

I would give serious consideration to 4wd for loader use. I just put a loader on my Kubota M4700 and I don't have much traction at all when I try to move with dirt in the bucket. I'm afraid to do any serious digging, I'd probably get stuck in the hole. I *could* load the tires (strongly recommended by the dealer) but the tractor is already too heavy for mowing soft spring ground. I'm probably going to come up with some way of adding 500-1000# to the rear.<br>As for the transmission, my Kubota is is synchronized going back and forth from forward (lo range) to reverse. That's much better than having to wait 15 seconds to shift (as I have to do going into high range.)<br>For most grading, etc. I find the box blade the most valuable implement.<br>Oh, BTW, my Kubota is 40+hp and maybe is a bit too much for typical implements: I too well known at the weld shop! Even managed to bend the mounts on a heavy duty box blade (pulling tree stumps). That's why I just go the loader, figured it should be matched to the tractor.<br>Good luck.<br>Ken

Dave, the original specs for that tractor called for a 8A or 8B backhoe. I am not sure how the 10A compares in size to the 8 series. A good rule of thumb is that the backhoe should be about 1/3 the weight of the tractor. Hope this helps...Good luck.

I own a 1070 now, traded in my 950 for it. You will be pleased with the performance and quality of these tractors.<br>The syncro allows you to change gears without having to come to a complete stop, I don't recommend going from forward to reverse<br>without stoping though. I tried to find a used backhoe for mine, but couldn't find one in my price range, so I am<br>presently building one of the Cadplans model 808 backhoe. Don't know anything about the spade you asked about.<br>Hope you enjoy your's as much as I have. Good luck.

I have a JD 1070 4WD tractor, and I am looking to install a backhoe attachment to it. I have talked to the<br> dealer and he has a new model 8B that fits my tractor. After reading all the great info on the boards, I decided against the 3010 and 3410 HST and am going after the 3710HST. I want the extra horse. There isn't much discussion about them, the 3710's. What info or problems can anyone give me? <br>By the way, my saleman explained that the lack of power on the HST's on the high end is on all of the hst's, not just the 3010. He says the high end is designed only for driving down the road without attachments. If you were to drive it like that, you would get the full rpms. <br>Thanks

I think that, when going up and down slopes,
having the backhoe extended straight out and
parallel to the ground helps to prevent
tipping, using the backhoe either as a
counterweight (on the uphill side of the
loader), or as a one-legged stabilizer on the
downhill side.
Overall, what machine do you think would be
best?

A tractor with a live PTO has a two stage clutch . Partially depressing the clutch stops the tractors forward motion , but continues applying power to the PTO. Further depressing the clutch removes power from the PTO as well as the tractor's transmission. A tractor without a live PTO can be pushed forward by the implement's PTO shafts turning and tranferring motion thru the transmission. This can get you in to a dangerous situation if you are close to a fence or a ditch, etc. You can buy an overrunning clutch from a tractor supply house that fits between your PTO shaft and the implement that prevents the energy transfer when you engage the clutch. <br>Hope this helps.<br>
