I've been shopping for a new tractor for quite sometime now. Have been seriously looking at a NH TC33D and a Kubota L3430. But now am trying to evaluate a JD 4310. It seems that Deere may have better financing options and perhaps some features the other tractors don't offer. I have no experience with these green machines. I seem to be getting more confused by the day. Any advice on my purchase would be appreciated?

I have 2.5 acres to mow, landscape, dig post holes for fencing all around, till, etc. I will also have about 16 acres to begin developing in preparation for building in the near future. I have been offered a good deal on a Grand L3430. Is this too much tractor for my 2.5 acres?

HELP!! I need some advice from you experts. I am purchasing my first finish mower. I have about 3 acres to mow. Ground is fairly level. I have been mowing with a rider. Time to get the 8N earning its keep. Here's my choices:

King Kutter - $1000 (side discharge only)
Servis Rhino - $1260 (side or rear discharge)

Any suggestions will be most appreciated!!

My decision to purchase from a dealer 3 hours away was a difficult one. One that I would not have made if my local dealer was willing to get within $1500 of. I see people getting deals from their local people $5000 less than what I'm able to get dealers to match in New Hampshire. There is no reason for this kind of difference, I don't care how good the service is. I'll gladly drag my butt outta bed at 4:00 in the morning, winch the tractor on my trailer and drag it three hours to a dealer that saved me 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. I just got my trailer, box blade and finish mower for FREE!

I can't find anything discussing specific quality concerns on the NH 758C backhoe. Anyone have any problems with this?

The bed insert looks nice. I have looked at these before but seemed a little pricey as I recall. I will follow up with this manufacturer. Thanks! The note about reinforcing the load under the bed sounds like a good workable solution. As far as my use, I'll be moving things around on my property (Fill,Stumps) and be able to limit the load on the sides by making more trips. This truck may eventually be a yard truck running an Ag plate as I expect it will suffer from my training on the hoe...

Sounds like the box scraper is the tool of choice if limited by funds or storage. (Can't get comfortable with leaving this stuff out in the weather) Guess that's why I see so many tractors with one mounted. That and the counter weight this implement provides. Seems I read another thread about how the box and the FEL are the perfect complement to each other. Blade or bush-hog on the list next. Guess it will depend on what time of the year the extra cash is available on that one...

PLK, I had a funky thing happen to me one evening when doing my yearly field burn. Although just my teenage son and I were doing it we always started at the down-wind end of our flat and level field and only very small areas at a time. We burn about 10 yards at the end of the field and then start 10 yards in front of that and so on. Working our way back across the field until we have 40 yards of border at the down-wind end. At that point we go to the other end and start the field. This has always been an uneventful project until one year, as I was backing up, lighting the grass with a rake filled with burning hay, the ground gave way and I found myself struggling to keep from being swollowed up by the field itself. The surrounding sod was giving way and I had to stop struggling to keep it from giving way any further, all the time the fire was growing near. At the last minute, when I had decided it was better to risk the unknown and drop to my fate rather than endure the fire, my son handed me his rake and pulled me out. Turns out I had an underground stream that ate the sand out below the sod, forming a pit some 30 feet deep and 10 feet in diameter. I have driven over that spot hundreds of times and can only reason that this was a recent occurance. Just goes to show that you never can tell. No matter how careful you think you are, some crazy thing can bite you bad. Make sure you have plenty of help when burning. The local fire department is still telling this story 8 years later as a good example of how well made plans can still go wrong...

Dave, Must be a great feeling. I'm still having problems seeing the prices people are getting away with. I think the're going to have to throw something at me to get me to part with another 10% over everyone else. Even the implements seem about 20% high. You get supersteer? That's a big question I have right now. The 35-45D is a bit large for my lawn but I'll need it for the rest of the property so I thought the SS would make it a little more managable in tight spots. I just wonder about the 17LA loader sticking way out in front, the added maintenance and the added complexity of hooking up a belly mower if that ended up being the way I go. Again, the lawn around the house (2.5Ac) might be better handled with a belly mower. Initially I'm going to try things with a rear finish mower. I have another 7 acre field and 24 acres of wooded land in Hill. Let me know how it goes. You get the loaded R4's? Hydro?

Dave, I believe I read that you have been dealing with Ryan. I am also in the market for a TC35D or TC40D Hydro,FEL,R4s (Without Super Steer) a rear mower and a box blade. Minus the implements I have been quoted $21200 for the tractor at this dealer. The SS was talked down as another maintenance item to avoid if possible but that may be based on what they want to move. Both tractors are a bit large for my 2.5 acres of lawn (hence the interest in SS) but I have a 7 acre field and another 25 acres of woods to play in so the larger unit is needed. Have you been able to get Ryan to move or have you talked to Capital? I hope to get a deal done as soon as possible (6 weeks at the outside).
