I have a Case DC-4 that has recently developed a problem. I very rarely use the tractor. While grading a driveway recently, the tractor was running and working well, but after about 20 minutes I noticed the motor was laboring more than normal (it was operating at about 45-50% throttle). I shut it down and turned the engine crank manually to check rotation. There was definite binding, but it would still turn.<br>
Flash forward to partial engine disassembly. <br>
After removing a couple of oil pan access covers, I noticed that there was coolant dripping very slowly from #4 and perhaps #3 connecting rod journals. It continued dripping slowly even while the tractor was static for hours. I pulled the cylinder head and examined the gasket and mating surfaces. Nothing is apparent there, except for the normal cooling passage buildup. I have not pulled either related piston yet, but think there may be some piston scoring at the skirt area of #4. I see nothing visually on the liners (with the pistons still in).<br>
Is there likely to be a crack in either the liner of either piston or perhaps in the block itself in that area? I am looking for most-likely scenarios before I keep investigating. The tractor is old and parts are very expensive, but I have always liked the reliability and versatility.<br>
