Just an update. I actually spoke to the technician who looked at the problem. I cannot feel comfortable about the whole thing (not the technician, the place he works). So, I have instructed them to just send it back to my barn as is. I'll find someone who is more reasonable in January.

Thank you all for your comments. It is nice to have some facts to help with my "gut feel".
