Is it possible? Yes. Is it economical? No. There should be a plate on the bottom of your transmission case. This is where the "drop box" will attach. This is the easiest postion of the assembly. I as mentioned earlier, there are internals omitted in an effort to reduce the overall cost of the vehicle. In order to add these part it will be necessary to "open up" the transmission. This procedure requires the removal of you operators station and seperating the driveline. This is the reason NH has decided not to have it as a Dealer Installed Accessory. There is substantial cost associated with it. If you are mechanically inclined and want to "open" up your new tractor, it is not impossible. If you obtain a parts schematic for a TC40D, you can determine the parts necessary. I would estimate that the parts will run about $500. This could be a gross under estimiation due to the fact that these parts aren't serviced frequently. They may also be difficult to locate. If you do the work, that is the end of story, for a dealer it will be a significant addition to the cost. There is a substantial amount of work and labor involved in this process.

The return line (the 5/16" line) length is independent of the kink situation. The steel tubing is bent towards the filter head and the angle at which the steel line travels is what determines the radius of curvature of the rubber hose material. If the hose does not appear to be kinked, do not worry about it. The suction line (5/8") can be shortened if necessary. I don't beleive that the amount you lowered the filter head should make much difference. I would just take a look to ensure that a kink is not present. If a kink is present, I can recommend several options to remedy the situation.
