Kwschumm....I noticed your pic of the tractor on its side. Did you have your belt on ? If not did you bail ? How much damage did the tractor sustain ? Were you hurt ? I have a pretty steep slope on one of my hills and tipping has always been a nightmare of mine. Do you have a tilt meter on your 4310 ?

Yep the 4210 I used had R4 7-12's. The 4310 has 7-14's which are way better. 7-14 R1's should keep you out of trouble whether Oregon clay or West Virginia ?? whatever you have there.

For MX8 lift type, min size tractor is 4 cylinder 5000 ten series or equivalent...pull type and semi mount versions require a tractor with a minimum of 40 PTO horespower. As you know the type and volume of material being cut will affect horsepower requirements. You might be getting in to too much mower for the 4710. An MX7 requires a min of 50 PTO HP and is targeted for use on 5000 series or larger. The real issue is you will be running at the top end of the range of the tractor....so, maybe not today...not next week....but at some point and sooner than you'll want, you'll bust up the PTO clutch...its not worth it.

There is a book....its called 'Compact Tractor Buying and Basics' and its a darn good intro to CUTs, implements and most everything in between. It would be a great intro for new salespeople.

It seems odd that the PHD pins did not shear...it should have to protect damage to the PTO clutch, clutch basket and/or gears.

Sounds like you may have damaged the PTO clutch/basket. My tech says its a 2 hour job to check for metal and pull the PTO apart to get at the clutch/basket.

You should also check to see what has been installed as shear pins in the PHD...someone may have replaced them with the wrong thing resulting in damage to your PTO

Several considerations...cutting width, number of blades, blade size and weight...there are many maufacturers but for example the Rankin 327 with a 4'6" width and 400lb weight would work nice with the 4100. I think you could go to 5'6" but I'm not sure I would go further. As usual it depends on the conditions...if your on the flats, no problem...dealing with some slope, soft ground, wet conditions and you'll bog down pretty quick.

Not only is the 2210 probably underpowered to properly grade the 2 acres but what are you wanting to do in the next few years with the 35 acres? I made the mistake of buying too little tractor and buying the wrong tractor...but I digress. Once you have the tractor your list of things to do with it will expand dramatically and I suspect the 2210 won't keep up...down the road you'll want to trade up. Look at your financing options to buy more now.

I had use of a 4210 for about a month and on several ocasions found the power lacking when using the FL...I would suggest you take the long view...you may not need the PTO HP now but in 5 years or 10 it may be a different kettle of fish. I suggest going for the extra HP...its peanuts when spread over the life of the tractor.
