For jes1942, what manual did you pull your info from? I do have the only service manual I could get from hoye, (although a couple years old) it is actually for a ym195 and is pretty close to the ym1500. I didn't see any place in there that it talked about this process, but maybe I missed it.

Thanks for not reading the dates. I haven't been on for a while and was looking at this posting and your thought about adjusting valves might help me with my problem. I've got 75 hours on my rebuild. Tractor was starting and running great then one day it wouldn't start. Had to give it a small puff of starting fluid then it takes right off and runs fine. Starts okay when warmed up though. I'm puzzled. I do have a banjo fitting on the fuel line that is seeping, I suppose it could be pulling in some air from this causing the problem. Oh well I might consider adjusting the valves again as well. Kind of funny how we respond to postings that someone probably solved a year ago.

Your correct that it doesn't have a water pump. No Thermostat either. I'm real curious to see what it does this summer when it hits 100F outside.

Are you sure that the place that is leaking the oil isn't the crankcase vent tube. I had problems with low power and burning lots of oil that were caused by really worn rings creating blow by in the cylinders and forceing oil and smoke out that tube. At least that is what I was told was going on. I also would get lots of oil or diesel splatter on my hood and clothes out of the exhaust. To make a long story short, I rebuilt the beast with pistons, rings, liners bearings and rebuilt the head. I've got 40 hours on the rebuild and seems to have solved all my problems. I don't know much about the injector pump and problems associated with it and I'm hoping I don't have to trouble shoot that any time soon. Hope this helps.

Nope, no valve indentations. To my eye it appears symmetric. I don't see anything on the original pistons either, but they are in pretty rough shape so its hard to tell. I'll inspect the inside again but pretty sure there's nothing there.

I am rebuilding a Yanmar 1500. I am being told that there is not a service manual available for this tractor and my efforts to find one are proving this to be true. The closest thing I have is a manual for YM 195. It appears to be basically the same style of engine as the 2TR15 in my 1500 but obviously sizes of parts are larger. I am going to have the head surfaced and new valves and guides put in it. My machinist asked for recommended specs on doing the valve job. Does anyone have any info on this or know where I might find it?<br>
