that 955 was a great tractor one of the first jd tractors i ever used my friend bought it and used it very little he owns a tree service when it sold it had 500 hours on it 350 of them i put on it it sold for 12500. 60" bush hog 70 loader plug araetor rear snow blade and a york rake i been kicking myself every since for not buying it but i had no idea what it was worth. infact he offered me a nice 3/4 ton 4x4 truck with dump bed, trailor, 955 all attachments for 20,000.00! i'm really sick about not buying it as i'm in the market for a tractor now. almost bought a 790 they told me it was a close too the 955 as i could get new < with out hydro> but upon compare of lift capacities/ hp it don't come close in my opinion i'll be looking 990. since there are no 955 around here for sale and i been looking over a year. i can tell you this much its a great driving tractor your wife will love it! my son at the time was about 12 he drove it used the loader and mower with no problems the peddles were very easy too push. the loader was very strong for the size tractor it is.

thanks gras and chief your input is greatly welcome as well as everyone whom has responded. well as i said previously they put a deadline on me for the price on the 790 something about extending the sale price? not sure if he is just pulling my chain trying too push me into closing the deal before months end. i hate that i never liked being rushed too a deal that i know so little about. at anyrate i'm leaning 990 as you said chief my only complaint is its size three frame sizes bigger than the 790! thats alot. you see i may have too tow this beast too my brothers and sisters homes and there is always the friends that come out the woodwork when they find out you got something they need! not having a 1 ton truck too tow it with or a trailor large enough. guess i may be in the market for a small dumptruck if i get the 990! yeehaaaa! always wanted one of them. dang my pocket book is sqealin smokin like a married man's! well i had glanced at a 990 on one lot that was a demo model 49 hours i think on it 18000.00 i believe he quoted. anyone know if the lift capacity of the other loaders will be greater on the 990 as of now it seems they use the 430, wonder how the new 300cx? will effect lift and break out forces or will the 460 work on the 990 guess i'll have too test my computing abilities and try and find the specs on the three too compare. well thanks again too all who replied being a tractor dummy i need all the help i can get.

i'm very curious as too if this will effect the overal performance of a bh on a 790 i would think so since it powered by the same hydro system. any insight? does everyone agree that this is a good thing too do? is there anyone here that can guide me in the right direction in checking the pressure and doin the mod? my unit should be delivered in 30 days. i can hardly wait!

what size bucket would be the best all round size? i'm thinking on a 16 and then add a smaller one later. the 110 is way too big for what i'm needing infact the 990 probaly is also i had heard some negative comment on the 7 hoe however i dont believe everything i hear. in reguards too the power of the hoe as i was reading the post about the shims too increase loader performance will this effect the hoe in the same positive way?or can it be adjusted or tweaked as well in a different way? thanks

thnx for quick response got the lowest price so far on the jd 790 with fell today at 13990.00 out the door! i think i'll be goin with these folks! was thinking of waiting till the 3000 series comes out but not sure if its what i'd want not much info on it yet. and i'm sure another price increase will follow?

WELL I'D BE HAPPY WITH 20 % OFF OF COURSE THE ONE I'M LOOKING AT IS THE ECONOMY UNIT <790> SO GETTING THAT MUCH OFF IS PROBALY UNLIKELY HOWEVER I'M GONNA TRY! LOL CAN'T BLAME A GUY FOR TRYING! THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT INSIGHT ANYMORE SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

i have bent and broken the pins pushing snow backwards with the blade. however if you turn the blade at an angle it helps alot and only push a half blade or less at a timeif you pull it then pull only half a blade at a time it helps too limit the build up behind the rear wheels ofcourse we dont get as much snow here but most of the time when we do its very wet heavy snow and ice. hope this helps

how about a dry cell battery would that work they use them in race cars and racing boats i put one in my yota not sure the cracking amps but if i recall it was quite high. they are expensive though about 135 bucks and up

actualy i was quite surprised the yota does quite well the rear suspension is quite beefy and the truck squats very little when towing of course its alot in how you load the trailor too too much tonge weight and id be doin wheel stands.i generaly load it backward if the bush hog is on that way the weight is on the axles just perfect. i must say if that trailor had no brakes it would never stop it. so i leave plenty stopping distance just in case they fail!

i would have too say the problem is in the fuse block its probaly under sized not the fuse but the block itself normaly an electrical part circuit or part of a circuit most always fails at the weakest point . as s chrand said the spade terminal can cause this i would replace all connections on the fuse block. keep in mind at times we have too increase the strength in one area too cause the problem too show up in the area that needs correcting. you can check the fuse block by taking a millivolt reading at the fuse block set the multimeter too milivolts take a reading between the line side and the load side of the fuse block it should not read more than .o99 any more than this is not exceptable if it reads more than that there is too much heat there caused by voltage drop. replace the fuse block you can also check the switch the same way. i hope this helps voltage drops are a leading cause of meltdowns a short will blow a fuse a drop increases heat and causes meltdowns. replacing the fuse block with a higher rated block should keep the fuse block / holder from melting

just a dumb question for chief, i was looking at your trailoring hitch / reciever on your tractor pix i noticed the 2x2 tubing coming up at an angle was there a reason for that being there? strenth? was this home made or bought it looks rather handy too have. anyway just curious i'm brand new here and i must say enjoying the info sharing. its helping me make the choice of which tractor is for me. thnx
