I recently bought a New Holland and opted for a rear mower for two reasons. First was that the mid mower is a lot more expense and I thought it provided lessflexibility. If you have a mid mount, you won't have a lot of ground clearance, which may be important if you're planning to work on a lot of uneven terrain. From what I hear, the mid mount mowers are also not that easy to remove. However, I must agree that a mid mount is probably easier to use since it doesn't swing out when you make sharp turns. My wife refuses to mow with my rear mount mower for that reason.

I mow and lot of hilly areas and have thus far left my FEL on the tractor while mowing to provide weight, but it gets in the way. I'm considering front wheel weights or bumper weights instead. It seems to me that the wheel weights would provide better ballast since they would be lower, but how hard are they to take off? I also use the tractor for landscaping and do not need the extra weight. Thanks for the thoughts, Mark

Thanks Keoke, that makes a lot of sense given the results of my limited tesing. I did finally receive a new sending unit from my dealer and I installed it this evening. Unfortunately, the guage still will not work. I'm now at a loss since I don't know how to further diagnose this problem. In any event, thanks for all the good suggestions.

I've only removed my New Holland 7308 loader once and had some trouble reconnecting the hydralic hoses. When I removed the loader, I used the rubber covers to protect the male and female hose connections. The issue is that when I tried to reconnect the hoses the hoses from the loader had too much pressure and I could not push the hoses far enough into the connection for the connection collar to lock. I had to loosen fittings on the loader to bleed off pressure to get the hoses to connect. Am I doing something wrong or is this a common problem?Thanks, Mark

Eddie,

A tire with a lot of thorns can sometimes present a long term problem. I worked in a rural tire repair shop for 7 years and have seen about any type of problem you can imagine can happen to a tire. I've never really had any faith in tire sealers, even if it does manage to stop the leak for now, without removal of the offending object (thorn, nail, etc.) the tire will eventually leak again. Here's some of the ways we used to fix a thorn problem:

1) Dig all the thorns out of the tread with an ice pick or other sharp object without puncturing the tire. Then find and patch any leaks.
2) Put a tube in the tire (assuming it's a tubeless to begin with) and make a liner to go between the tube and the tire out of a heavy piece of rubber (another tube or a truck tire liner).
3) If there are numerous thorns, some people will just replace the tire to avoid additional fixes later as the thorns continue to work their way into the tire.

We were usually successful with either option 1 or 2 depending on the severity of the thorn infestation.

I suggest you go to the New Holland web page (http://www.equipment-locator.com/nh/nhgc.asp). They have a used tractor
listing for their dealer network. The last time I checked, it
contained around 500 listings for compact tractors. I myself just
purchased a 1998 model 1925 with 1070 hours including a 7308 loader,
5' finish mower, and box blade for $13,300.00. I purchased this
tractor from a private individual and feel that it was an excellent
buy at that price.
