I just changed my tranamission fluid, 50 hrs on it. I got about two teaspoons of metal shavings out of the suction screen. I called the dealer and ask if this was normal, he said that the hyd pump was were they could of came from, but looks like to me the pump would pull the fluid past the suction screen in the pump then the hyd filter, and the shavings should be in the filter not the suction screen. Would this correct or not. Also how many others have changed ther fluid and got the same thing.

I also purchased a 4400 72in belly mower and a 450 tiller. I had all the the problems as mentioned in the other treads, all were fixed no charged. I am very pleased with my tractor at this point. I have a small hill in the rear yard and wanted to move the front tires out wider, seem that they will scrub the deck in a turn, so I took one of the front brackets off nad made a templet, moving the
bottom half back one inch, now I have no problem in turns. My tractor has turf tires and I don't know if other types will work, there maybe a prolbem clearing the rear tire when the deck up.

Chris my 4400 does have turf tires, but like you I don't see what differents that makes if the tires scruf they scruf and you should get the new axle. Some months back I told my dealer about this problem, he and a dealer rep came to my home and looked at my lawn, they seen first hand how bad the problem was, maybe you should try to have the same thing done at your house. Let us know if you don't get the fix, if not it sure will make me think twice about bying JD equipment next time. Best of luck.

Mike thanks for the insite on the hydrostatic trans change, I can't understand why JD or dealers haven't let owners know about this. I personally was planing on doing it sooner than recomended anyway but not that soon, but will now.

Shawn my hoses make an S shape and are on the in side of the chanel frame and almost rub the engine side cover are your this was or are they on the outside?

Jim recently had about a 6in / 10ft log fall out of a tree on my JD4400 in the ice storm in S.C.,it hit right across the hood. Besides nearly having a heartatack it only scratched the surface where it hit. A little buffing compound and it was good as new, a steel part would have been dented. I like the composite parts they seem to be more durable vs steel. I have also used the fenders to stand on to trim limbs from trees, and haven't broken one yet. I to was a little worried about plastic vs steel, not any more. Hope this may help you in your decision and you get what you want.

I have a 4400 with 72in belly mower and turf tires, I wanted to move front tires to the widest stance, I have a small hill to cut and would fill safer with the tractor this way. Come to find out this can't be done as the tires will scrub the deck. So I had two brackets made for the front mount, move the deck back 2 1/4ins and it works great. I don't know if this will for different tire types, it only leaves about 1in between deck and tire when deck is fully raised. Looks like this would be supplied by dealer, but not as of yet. I hope this will help someone wanting to do same thing.

Bill what type of synthetic oil are you using in your tractors hyd system and did you replace your filter at the time of your change. I to have heard some noise on cold mornings and think this would be a way to solve my problem.

Bill thanks for the insite, Iv'e found the website for AMSOIL on the internet, there seems to be severals diesel oils. I was thinking of going with the 3000 series 5w30 oil, witch do you use and they also have some diesel fuel additive do you use any of these. Thanks again Tery

Dennis I have a PTO shaft with slip clutch that went on a JD 54in tiller it may be possible to make it work, I had the tiller on a JD 445 and then later purchased 4400 tractor and instead of making the shaft longer and changing the yoke on front of shaft I bought a new one, you can contact me by phone at 864-599-1999 8 :00-4:00pm M-F if your interested.

Joe I purchaseed A JD 4200 HST 60in belly mower, used it one day and called my dealer up and told him I was not pleased with the power, I've a small hill in my yard and when running the belly mower, cutting short grass the tractor rpms would drop off, so he aloud me to trade it back in on A 4400 HST 72in belly mower. I am very pleased with the power, if were in your shoes I would go for the 4300 or 4400, my two MPO.

Ted what I don`t understand is why you ask everyone about this problem, who do not own a 4000 series tractor, that would be like me asking everyone who own a Chevrolet about a Ford Problem, their both trucks, but dirrerent beast. Our concern is when turning, the tire will start scuffing the ground, pavement, dirt or what every. At about a 80 degree turn, or a thirty foot circle, I hope this will help you to under stand our problem (4000 series owners). Why don`t you ask them.

Mike and others I own a 4400 with turf tires, I`ve changed the stance on my tractor simply by switching the tires around,left on right and viceversa, seem to make the tractor about fourteen inches wider.

Russ after speaking to my dealer in S.C. I was told that tractors built after December would have the new axles, and axle to fix past tractor would be ready in January. I was also told that there was another fix for a similar problem, to agressive gearing for the differential in 4WD, and thats not whats wrong with mine. Mine tears the lawn in 2WD, its sounds like you have the same problem. Hope this helps, you may want to call your dealer and tell him what you have heard on this board.

I just talked to my dealer, he informed me that John Deere was going to fix the scruffing problem on some of the 4000 series tractors not all but some, he said that he was told that there was so much scruffing aloud and someone would come and look at my lawn to see if my tractor quailfied for the refit. He also said the new tractors built in December would have the new axle. I would suggest anyone owning one to call their dealer and tell them of there problem.

does anyone have any information on the new Kubota tractors that are going to be introduced in Nashville? I'm looking at the L4310 but I have seen on the internet that there may be a higher HP model (L4510?). If there's not much difference in price I may wait for that model. I also noticed that there might be a higher HP tractor/loader/backhoe (L48).....if anyone knows anything about that tractor I would appreciate it as I might go that route in lieu of the L4510. Thanks.
