That is an important clarification--not all have the problem. Also, not ONLY 4300s DO have the problem--tractors in the whole 4000 series have been affected. Does the fact that some have a problem and others don't indicate that it is more of an individual defect--like a bad fitting wheel--affecting many tractors, as opposed to an actual design issue?

We have a little old model Ford snowblower on the three-point of our JD 4300. Trying to blow snow for the first time this season, the snow just packs in the little chute and sticks. This never happened with it last winter. Is it a problem with the type of snow, or did we not do something we should have to make the snowblower less sticky? Thanks for help!

Oh Boy, it is worse than I thought. Someone else took a look at the tractor when I turned it on to try to locate the source of the leak. The upper right corner of the battery has apparently punctured and/or corroded a hole into the transmission fluid cooler (is this a transmission "radiator"?), which is located just in front of the radiator. I am wondering how on earth did the battery move to this position (only the right corner contacts the cooler, not the left)... There is a great gaping hole now which spews out transmission fluid. I guess I have to call the dealer in the morning. Anyone ever have such a thing happen?

At the risk of beating this topic to death and into the afterlife, you got instructions? There are some people, rare though they may be (I, unfortunately, am one of them), who transcend the phrase "mechanically inept." I physically had to take my manual out with me the first three times I greased the tractor and loader, just so I could find all of the zerks. (BTW, I have determined the manual shows zerks where there are none, and I have now found some they do not picture!). Whether you feel comfortable or not installing a piece of safety equipment designed to prevent the loader from falling on you or someone else, the development of which was no doubt spurred by that misfortune actually occurring to someone else, is a separate issue. The point is, JD has some responsibility to ensure the safety, within reason, of their customers. As the above poster said, your automaker does not send you a box of parts when they have a safety recall; they tell you to bring the vehicle in. The choice, of installing the thing yourself (if you are comfortable doing so and want to avoid the inconvenience of having it serviced), ignoring the recall, or having the manufacturer take care of the installation, should be your own to make. In this case, a dealer could have put the kits in a truck and sent one service guy around to their clients to whom the recall applied, and installed this piece of equipment which was important enough to develop. This is another case of Deere making a half-baked attempt at avoiding potential liability for injury which they are aware may occur due to a design flaw in their product. Notwithstanding that, I like the tractor very much and consider it a critically necessary part of operating my farm. It is just that, with the problems it has had, the lax attitude of the dealership to resolve them, and my own self-confessed mechanical ineptitude (which I strive to improve as a practical matter), I am afraid to drive the thing! I find myself jumping at every little bump or noise it makes and that is nonproductive. If my wheel had not fallen off, if the dealer had been more accommodating, and if I had not discovered another 6 people to whom that has happened, I would still be operating in that blissful state of false security!

Does anyone have any ideas about what governmental agencies or regulatory authorities are supposed to keep tabs on the manufacture of tractors and parts?

Looking at the tractor and the manual, it appears that the tie-rod on the right side front of the tractor has backed out of where it is supposed to be. The rod has a nut threaded on it, and on the left side of the tractor, the nut is right against the bushing. On the right side, the nut is in the middle point on the rod, with another inch of threaded rod exposed before the bushing. So there is about twice as much threaded rod exposed on the right than on the left. Is this some kind of a problem? Anyone know what would cause it, or how to fix it? Thanks!

I hate to sound like too much of a chick here, but when you say "two hydraulic hoses," do you mean two all together, or two in any particular location? I look at the front axle and on each side (by each of the front tires), there is one little 1/4-3/8" L-shaped metal thing coming off the axle toward the back of the tractor. These have a hose thing attached to each of them that heads up under the hood of the tractor. I assume this is the hydraulic hose, as I can't find anything else that looks like it may be it. I can't find anything in the manual which would label this as a hydraulic hose. I also assume then that there are two total, rather than one. So does that mean it is a bad axle? The tractor was delivered in August of 1999. Thanks again!

Was there actually a recall or something for this? How did everyone find out that there was a replacement axle? Is it a matter of only those who complain get this fixed, or did Deere notify owners of a problem?In having the axle replaced, did the dealer cover getting the tractor to the dealership and the repairs, or did you folks who got the work done get socked for windshield time and transport?On warranty work in general, in your experience, do you have to pay to have the service guy come out or to have the tractor taken in for warranted repairs? Do these policies vary dealer-to-dealer? Thanks for the feedback. We are new to the tractor game and even newer to the tractor-repair game....

I have noticed this phenomena on our JD4300 hydro, which was new last August and now has 170 hours. This happened mainly when the weather was cold (during all of those snowblowing sessions), and more toward the beginning of the use session. I noticed it as soon as I would remove my foot from the forward peddle to apply it to the brake. While my foot was in the air, the tractor would go faster. This is our first tractor, and 1 more than I ever figured we would own, so I thought it was just kind of how they were and adjusted my reflexes/stopping distances to solve the problem....

The right side of the rototiller on our JD4300 is hanging lower than the left. A tractor neophyte, I am afraid I do not know how to adjust this. What is the "wing", exactly? I don't see any animal on this hitch that can be rotated "half a turn." Thanks in advance for a followup!
