I looked hard at the kubota and deere. I opted for the Gator HPX Diesel and it has performed without flaw. I live in cold weather country (Ohio) and use it for just about everything (we live on 50 acres with 40 acres of hilly hardwoods). I have no trouble starting it, although I have read that others have. I keep it in a barn and maybe that helps. I also looked at the Kawasaki and the Polaris. The Polaris was fast, but I liked the diesel in the Gator and 25 mph is enough around here. I have about 100 hrs on it without any trouble and I have given it a pretty good beating. I am sure you will enjoy either machine, but I have had such good luck with Deere that I can't find a reason to change.

I have a 40 x 60 steel pole barn w/concrete floor. I am slowly insulating the vertical walls and so I don't know the overall efficiency of my system yet. Because I receive free natural gas (under a lease w/local gas provider for their underground storage), I elected to install a hanging unit heater. I went with a 200k btu Reznor. It provides a quick heat time (comfortable w/i two hours from a beginning tempurature of 20 degrees farinheiht. One thing I know about this system is that it is simple to maintain and use. That fits my lifestyle. If I know I will be using the tractor the next day I will turn it on at night. I use a thermostate with a low setting of 40 degrees, so I can keep the edge off at all times if necessary. I will watch the gas bill to see what it uses throughout this first winter.

I was a plumber in my former life. I haven't been in the industry for 30 years, but I would first check with the public water authority delivering your water. They will likely have ideas about how to resolve your situation. You have two factors in play: distance and elevation. Both of these create resistance resulting in pressure loss. I agree with Hardwood that a booster pump is probably in order. I suspect his pump is a 1 to 1 1/2 horsepower if it is a submersible. Based on the elevations and distance you describe, I would be willing to bet that a booster pump within 100' of your house would yield tremendous results in pressure increase. You might consider a conventional pressurized water tank in the house to stabilize the pressure. If your house is a two story you will want to achieve pressure between 40-60 psi for ordinary service. Your pump should be outfitted with a pressure switch that will allow hi/lo settings that you can adjust to meet your needs. Once you get above 80 psi you will start to put your plumbing components (faucets, valves, water heater, etc. at risk. Take a look at the link provided for a starting point. Good luck.

I can't figure out why you haven't called your dealer. My JD dealer would have been out within the hour to pick it up and fix it on my schedule. The service I have received has been excellent. I have a 4410 with about 45 hrs and I mean tough hours bush hoggin', ripping out tree roots, chipping and shredding, box bladin' and so forth. Not a flaw I can see. When I call in a couple weeks for the 50 hr service I'll bet their first question will be: When will it be convenient for us to pick it up? I am amazed at the Deere bashers on this board. I have had three deeres now and never had a problem that wasn't addresses the way it should have been. It's not a perfect world. If I live long enough to log 1500 hrs on this Deere, I'll bet it'll be running like the day I bought it.

Yes, I meant 430. I was looking at a 4610 w/ a 460, but decided it was more $$ and more tractor than I needed.

I ordered a 4410 e/Hydro. While I looked at the NH, my choice was narrowed down to the 4410 or the Kubota 3430. In the end I just had to stay green. I liked the comfort, the controls and the layout of the pedals was better for me. The only thing the Kubota offered was a little more lifting power in the FEL, but in the end the JD price was almost the same. I have never regretted a JD decision. I'd be interested in hearing what you had to pay and what equipment you got with it. Good luck with your choice.

For what it is worth, I looked at JD, NH and Kubota today, a Saturday. The Kubota dealer had about two other people looking besides me. I was the only person at the NH dealer the whole time I was there (about an hour) and at the JD dealer there were probably a dozen or more people there, either looking at new equipment or other business. I have been looking for about a month and I always come back to the JD. It is a little more money (especially with the attachments), but I feel like it will be worth it in the long run. Actually, by the time I priced everything out you could throw a hat over the total. I was looking at the NH35DA, the Kubotal L3430HST and the JD4410eHydro. The interesting thing is that the FEL was less on the JD than the other two--by over a $1k on the NH and about $700 on the Kubota. That made up some slack on the approx. $800 difference in base price. Actually, I concluded that they are all probably strong and reliable tractors, but in the end I wanted to be with a good dealer and I have had green twice (small garden tractors), and I have never had a problem--I mean never. I bought my first one on the recommendation of a fried in California--he had one sitting in his garage that he had since 1958, and it still "ran like a Deere." I hope my luck holds up.

I noticed the JD site has prices on the new Twenty Series tractors. Assuming an equal discount as on the Ten Series, it looks like a 43hp 4120 will run about $18,600 base price w/eHydro and R4 tires. MSRP is $24,086 and I am basing the net price on recent prices on the 4310. Probably not accurate, but at least the Twenty Series might be doable for those with a few extra $$.

Series 60--now there is an engineering marvel. I drove a Prevost with a 60 back in 95 when they were gaining popularity with the coach crowd. That thing would walk right up the Beartooth Highway and not even break a sweat!

I have been looking for a similar set up with a few more attachments. However, from the pricing I have, I could get the same set up from one dealer for $19,750, which I thought was a fair deal, until I checked with another who quoted $18,600 for what would be your set up. You might consider the iMatch Quick Hitch as well for attachments to your 3pt--I understand it is well worth it. Both offers included 0% financing for 36 months w/10% down, and the prices are after all rebates. Make sure you ask for the heavy duty bucket on the 430; I understand it is worth the extra $$. Thanks for all of the input. I went out and looked at the Kubotas again today. I made the mistake of driving the L3130--what a difference between the B7800 and L series! That trip probably cost me a few thousand. I still am not sure I like the Z turn mowers. I drove again and they really must take some getting used to. I am beginning to think I might just get by with the tractor with a rear finishing mower and my little JD LT150 for around the trees and trimming the edges.
