I recently got a letter from New Holland suggesting that I extend the
warranty I got when I purchased the tractor. The current warranty will
expire in July. The tractor was purchased new in July 2001.
Is this a good idea?

Do you want the mower blades to stop when the tractor stops?
With live PTO that is not a problem since the blades will always
be turning. I drove my neighbor's old Ford tractor and it was kinda of
difficult to cut in narrow areas or where you had to stop frequently to turn, etc. When I got my TC33D, this was no problem because it has
live PTO.

Pulled my hair out for about an hour on Saturday when my TC33D
wouldn't start. Turned out that after doing some mowing that one of
the wires got unplugged from the PTO limit switch under the tractor.
The tractor then thought the PTO was ON and wouldn't let the
tractor start. Easy to fix though, just plugged it back in.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Which is better - a solid or laminated wheel on the back of a BushHog?
I have a solid wheel that after one year has a small piece chipped out of it.

Don't really think that foreign-made versus US made is that big of
an issue. US quality has improved over the years but I don't think
Japanese quality has gone down. I have the TC33D which I think
is assembled in Georgia. I don't know how much of it is made from
parts from Japan.

I went through the same thinking last summer. I started out focusing on getting the TC25D. Later, it seems everybody I talked to wished they had gotten more horsepower. I then thought I would get a TC29. This inflated to wanting a TC33D. I stopped there and purchased a TC33D, because to go higher meant getting a heavier frame tractor. So, at least for me, the logic was - get the biggest engine on the size frame you are interested in.

Yeah. The teflon tape/new original fitting seems to be working so far.
I think maybe they didn't put enough pipe dope on it at the factory.
When it got cold, it leaked.

I am in southeast (hilly) Tennessee. I seriously considered the
Dr Brush mower for the steeper parts because I was afraid of
that "tippy" feeling in the tractor. Some areas that needed to be
cut were on a 25% grade. I finally decided to buy a TC33D with
a 60" Bush Hog. This worked very well and I am sure is a lot
faster than the Dr Brush mower. I rationalized the safety issue like
this. The tractor has a roll bar and a seat belt. If there is an accident I will be fastened to the seat and protected. The "tippy feeling" on the tractor seems to be associated with going sideways on a hill which should be avoided (go up and down the slope). The Dr. Brush Mower seems like
it would be good for places you can't fit a tractor. (like trees closer
than six feet to each other). Otherwise I agree with one of the earlier
posts. If it's too steep for the tractor, its probably not safe with the
Dr. Brush mower also.
