My dad had one of these things back when I was a kid, and we split a LOT of wood with that thing. Can't really say that I ever felt safe around it though. The biggest problem that we had was that our wood stove needed short logs, but the screw splitter has trouble splitting them. Longer logs work just fine, but the screw will grab a shorter log and spin it around. I don't ever recall the truck ever getting knocked off the jack, but I did get whacked with spinning logs on several occaisions. I distinctly remember, even as a 12 year old kid, being amazed that this contraption was not illegal. I would definitely reccomend steering clear of this thing if you value the continued use of all of your limbs. Splitting wood with that thing is probably the reason that I prefer splitting with a heavy maul even to this day.

Sales pitch indeed! Well, I guess it worked. On the other hand, I'm very happy with the hydro, and now that I recall he did mention that it was a rental yard who owned the offending machine. Since the operator was obviously renting the machine, it's easy to see how this kind of abuse could occur. We've all seen cases of "it's not mine so to heck with it, run it at the red line til it breaks." He also told me that all of the tractors they have purchased since have been hydrostatic.

Just had my new TC30 delivered, and just like you, I didn't care for the turnbuckles for sway control on the 3 point hitch. Turns out that I was able to upgrade to the better 3 point hitch setup, including the non-turnbuckle sway conrol, as found on the Boomers for only about $300. Well worth it if you ask me.

I had a similar problem with my 1510. On three seperate occaisions the 3PH either got stuck up or down. All three times it was a sheared off roll pin from the control arm to the valve. After the third time I finally spoke with someone over at Corriher Implement Company, and he told me that instead of putting in a single roll pin to replace the sheared off one I needed to double it up. So I put in the same size roll pin that I had been using earlier, and then tapped into the center of that one a smaller roll pin. Don't know if this was the best solution out there, but it hasn't given up yet.
