I live in Marshfield WI, known as the city in the middle. I'd call Farm Credit Services at 715 3873765. Also get The Marshfield News Herald, non- affectionately known as the " Marshfield Evening Astonisher" at 715 384 3131 for the want-ads. Also the Marshfield Buyer Guide has want-ads for central WI.They have a web site at www.marshfieldinfo.com Also,especially re farm land Agri-View 715 683 2779 is a local farm newspaper and Country Day,I believe, it's called out of Eau Claire. Landini Realty and Auction Service 715 267 7247 deals in farmland out of Greenwood. A trick I use to avoid real estate fees is get a plat book for each county/township you are interested in, drive around, pull into an intersting looking place and ask. you'll scare up a ton of leads with the turmoil(price of milk!) going on in agricuulture. Death, divorce, retirement and taxes drive the real estate market

John,get the biggest galvinized bushel basket you can find,put a cheap drawbar through it with 2/3 of it hanging behind the drawbar.Add a fixture from the drawbar through the bottom of the basket for the toplink. Stick a trailer hitch, connected to the drawbar, out the back of the basket. Add a 6-8 inch extension ( I used flower bed edging) to the opening of the basket and fill with chunks of cast iron,wire and Qiuck-crete with fiber. The concrete extension lets it set on it's own pedestal for easy hook-up,the weight is low for stability, the trailer hitch is available, and the weight is tight to the tractor. Just a suggestion.

I brought a $300 3 pt. spreader, made in Italy, from Fleet Farm. Do NOT run the PTO/spreader/agitator unless the fertilizer is flowing. Otherwise, the fertiziler can heat up and fuse into rock-like hardness, tearing up the lower most agitator necessitating emptying the spreader by hand etc. Parts were not available leading to an expensive repair.

JONB, I built 2 compost bins side by side out of 6- 6 x 6" cedar posts ( NOT treated lumbar). Each bin is a little less than 6' square and open on the same side and wide enough to slide the FEL in. It's about 5 1/2'tall and tied together on the top with 2x6s ( on 3 sides) with galvinized plates and notches. For the side walls I used heavy metal mesh used in concrete so it will take so me pushing around. It's real easy to mix it up by just sticking the FEL in and lifting and partially pullling it out. As it 'cooks' down and other plant debri is available I move it between the two bins. 3 bins would not be unreasonable, if you got plently of stuff especially animal waste. I get great compost with hardly any manuel labor.

The ram is the rod that hydraulic fluid pushes or pulls on that comes out of a hydraulic cylinder. Until recently they were shiney chrome-like. There is a new "nitrile" steel that is a gray color on some new machines. Of course it's smooth and shiney or the seal would get tore-up. On the defective front axles, the ram goes through the hydraulic and when one side is extending the other end is retracting since it's the same ram.

An underappreciated compact tractor,IMHO, are the Massey Ferguson 1200's (Iseki made,a reputable Japanese manufacture that made the under 45 hps Whites in the 80' and early 90' and the bigger Bolens- they even had their name,WHITE-ISEKI on the tractor). AGCO supports parts, they use Isuzu and ,I think Mitsubishi engines. I have a 1986 Bolens G214, the same as a White Field Boss 21, with a loader and backhoe and it's been a great tractor( 21 horse diesel,4 WD). The local AGCO dealer has 6 new ones on the lot and is advertising a lot.

I doubt you will find a "Kubota junkyard". However, truck farming states such as FL,NJ,CA may have what you need with a little shopping. Bigger junkyards join parts finding networks for this exact reason. Also, Yahoo has a Kubota owners group that could be helpful; http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/kubotaownersgroupkog

I own a 1986 Ford 1910, a model and vintage before the 2120, and it's a solid machine. The extra weight, cylinder and independent power steering of a 2120 is appealing. Plus New Holland supports the tractor.

As a kid those BIG JD-Rs were impressive. I remember they had a small "pony" gas engine instead of an electric starter motor to turn them over. Boy, could they lug through the tough spots while plowing, chopping, etc.

Re trading off with the wife; when my Ford 1910 appeared in the drive (brought and delivered by a friend from an auction), the wife walked up to it and said, "It says Ford, not Steinway!" A few days later a snow blower was delivered and she wanted to know 'what was that insturment of Death". Fortunately it snowed that night and we have a 1300'+ drive and she saw the light! She got her piano several months later.

A veternarian friend of mine sold hundreds of cow magnets (a 3/4" by 4" smooth magnet that you run through a cow's gastrointestinal tract to pick up hardware they've ingested- they are pretty strong & cost about 3 or 4 bucks) Farmers would place them next to the fuel lines in their vehicles.They only work if you can't calculate MPG.Test the theory out with these then give the pair to a seven year old kid- he'll think he died and went to heaven.

In replying to Todd re snowblower, I went to the thread on 12-24-00 entitled "Best Snowblower" and tried to highlight the url in the floating window that has the opened thread on it in order to "cut" the url(control-c) in order to paste it on the reply today. Nothing happens except to move the window around abit. How can you cut and paste a specific thread on this site? I cruised the menu above and don't find an answer. Any help is appreciated

Bifold Doors
Since we are seriously talking about a shop I am wondering has anyone had any experince with bifold doors. See the link or cut & paste. http://www.bifold.com The do not encroach an head room so a 12' car lift could be close to the opening. The also look like they would provide an "awaning" for sun and rain. Also no shoveling in order to open with snow. Can you have a window in them, do they seal good for a heated space, etc ?

Matt, the hp for the 1910, right out of the Service Manuel, is 32 for the engine and 29.3 PTO at 540 RPM. I'd guess the drawbar hp ~ 24-25. The 1910 seems more reasonable at $9000 with less hours than the $13000 for the 1920. The shape of the loader and ease of use is a factor that I can't evaluate. I think both prices are a starting point for further offers. Is there any other implement that can be thrown into the mix ?

Gary, I snow blow with a rear mounted 60" Lucknow on a gear 1910 Ford. Going slow enough is the problem- a hydrostatic transmission would be ideal. A creeper range would be second best. As it is, I have to sometimes slip the clutch or take less than a full bite. The uneveness of the snow depth from drifting would be perfect for a hydrostatic. The Ford 1910 has a 2- stage clutch and that helps to prevent clogging/shearing pins somewhat.
