There is a small circle on the right hand side of the dash with a squiggly wire about a half an inch down inside of it . It is a "shunt" from the glow plugs . When it glows bright red it's time to start . If it does not glow then the plugs have a problem .I have the same machine . It is the same as the Ford 1210 .

Sometimes after sitting for a few weeks a leak however small can allow air to get in and allow fuel to drain leaving only air . If it were me I would disconnect the injectors and pull them back JUST A TINY BIT and crank . If you have air in the system it will compress without doing this . This allows the air to leave the system . Crank until you see fuel coming out of the tubes and then re-tighten the injector lines and start .

The only info I have is from the book you sold me . The 1210 Ford which is "supposed" to be the same machine has the 723 engine . They are specific about all the other engines as far as the bore being the same as the stroke . If you are sure that the bore is 71 do you know the stroke ? Could this be some kind of experimental engine ? It is my understanding that they sold tractors to Ford/New Holland and the 1603 was the Ford 1210 . Everything that I have found in the books are exactly the same EXCEPT for the engine . I would appreciate any help you could give me in this matter .

Earthworks , this puppy is nowhere near 33 HP . It's more like 20 or less HP .
Leonard , The K713 is nowhere to be found in any literature or web site I can find . I remember e-mailing you about this tractor . It seems like it's one or two of a kind . I found a reference to one (SL 1603) sold in England but nothing else . The K713 must be some kind of rare bird .Also the model SL 1603 seems to be all by itself . It seems to mimic the Ford 1210 except for the engine .

I have the same unit . The first thing that I noticed in your post is that you get gray smoke when trying to start . This is a sign of unburned fuel coming out the exhaust . Here's a little thing you can do right away to see if it is a simple fix . The glow plugs will draw amps when on . You must determine if they are all working . Just because your dash says they are on there is no guarantee that they are ALL working . Usually the glow plug will draw a max of 4 amps . Soooo since you have a 3 cylinder engine you should be drawing 10 to 12 amps when the glow plugs are being used . If not then you have one or two not working . This is just the first test . The proper pump timing is too difficult to do "at home" unless you have the right stuff . If it runs at all you are not a full turn out so it MIGHT be just one tooth which is easy to fix IF that's it . Start with the amp draw and hope that's it . Good luck .
