oh....and Mark, I can't offer what your looking for. In your area one of those may work well for you, but they did more harm than good in my home town.

Just as well I guess, My wife complains to many of my friends stop by now, onw more may push her over the edge. So if you are comeing to my doorstep,even if I can't sel you a tractor....you are welcome there, but you may want to call first so we can get our stories straight, she would accuse me of planning alll this!!!!!!

Forgot to add some points. The rock picking machine attached to the drawbar of the tractor, we used a 1020 John Deere at that time. It was more than enough tractor so a 30 hp compact would have worked very well

My wife also has a phobea about new push mowers, We had an old JD14PZ she had become emotionally attached to. Last fall, she picked up an old corn planter check wire when mowing some weeds in a spot on our farm that had never been mowed before (because I knew how much junk grandad had deposited in that spot).

The crank was bent, we held a service on the back lawn, some friends and neighbors stoped by to pay their respects, a few solomn words were spoken as we placed it to rest in a beautiful spot near the trash cans for pick-up.

I sell these things.....walk behind mowers...and brought a new one home from work the next day. You guessed it....it wasn't the same. She didn't push it five feet in three weeks. She went to a flee market, found the oldest, ugliest, busted up JD 14pz I had ever seen, but it ran. She now pushes it along with a spitefull look on her face.

If I should die in my sleep tonight, I will die a tortured, frustraited, man.

Each type of sideing you mentioned has it's own shortcomeings and advantages, you've already read a few in the above posts.

I have vinyl on my house, steel on one shed, t1-11 on the workshop, and an old barn that still has wood sideing, in it's day it was called "car sideing" because it of it's prominent use on railroad box cars.

I have no favorite, the vinyl on the house was riddled from a hail storm in '99, and we replaced it with vinyl because it was availabe in a style she liked. The steel didn't fair much better, but was less than one year old and was replaced at no charge under the warrenty. the t1-11 on the workshop had not been built yet, so the jury is still out. The old wood barn with an old wood shake shingle roof, remained un-damaged. But, paint seems to last only three years, and I HATE PAINTING. Haven't had any critter damage, but feed is readily available, and probably more palletable to them.s o they leave the structure alone, not to mention the protection of a dog that will chase any rodent, anytime.

Get whatever style and color you like, that fits your budget, and the type of material is a secondary choice. Mother Nature cares little what you do, she does her own thing.

The 4200 does have a Yanmar engine, however it is manufactured in Augusta, Ga.

I am Deere Dealer, and have a couple Kubota's on my lot that were traded by disatisfied owners.

I will commend you on your brand name loyalty, but as I reflect on the past history of the tractors I have sold, we have had very few problems. I will admit I read alot of problems on here and here them on the street with the deere's, but, we ain't seein' much poblems in our area.

To say we have done zero warrenty work would be inaccurate, but, the orange guy down the street, who is also a repuatable dealer, and a fellow alumn of my high school who I see on a daily basis (small town), has about the same warrenty/sales rate as we do.

Yes, he is usually cheaper on sales prices, however, his service dept. usually makes that up on oil changes and other non warrenty service.

Just like you, I calls 'em likes I sees 'um.

The kit for the steering column is #02lv064. Not all tractors were effected, contact your dealer and give him your pin #, he should be able to tell you if it is needed on your tractor.

I believe what you wittnesses are Galaxi Brand Turf Tires. Art Is correct on the profile of the users. They are a brand all of their own, the company purchased the technoligy from BF Goodrich a few years ago.

They do give a large footprint in turf, greens espesially.

They are a little pricey, and are tougher than you may think, but they do have some problems with stability with FEL's and traction on mud.

They are not for the typical compact buyer, but if I was presented with them on a used model, I would not let them scare me.

art and tom are right on the money. The bucket cylinders are plumbed together, and oil will flow the path of least resistance.

a bucket that has been sprung or twisted will sometimes cause the effect that you describe.

A twisted bucket will not allow one of the cylinders to complete it's full stroke. Because of this, the cylinder that does complete it's stroke will usually be the one that trips the releif valve in the system, leaving a little air in the other cylinder(s) in the circuit. In theory, the short stroke will be on oposite sides depending on the direction of travel.

I fought some engineers at one of our factories on this subject, he maintained that the above situation would not trap air in the circuit in question. It led to an experement at our shop.

I won ( I must admit here that I agreed with him at first, but we had exhausted all other possibilities)

After installing a new bucket, after a few strokes, everything went back to normal and worked fine. Re-install the twisted bucket, and within a few minutes of operation, the problem returned.

The engineer maintained this could not happen. Even though he wittnessed it with his own eyes.

After some more research in the matter, we found this only to be true once the oil was warmed to normal operating temps. We also found that if you waited a few moments between cylcles the problem disapeared, thus we came to the conclusion that tiny air bibbles were being trapped in the oil within the cylinder, and if you gave them some time, they would disapate.

Make any sense to you guys??

Septic systems..........the mind boggles.

The proper installation and maintinence of a home septic system is no easy topic.

There are so many factors involved, such as topography, soil types, soil hydrography, and water usage there are few quick, genaric answers.

Oils and solvents down a drain are never a good thing. As far as adding chemicals or bacteria...........
A conventinal septic system that is designed properly will need no addition of bacteria, us humans discharge plenty of the little beasts.

If you have a conventional system, and your pot is plugged and you can't(insert your own word here), then you have a failed system. Failure may be caused by factors that pumping won't cure in the longterm and pumping will become more frequent.

But....here is the big stink (parden my pun). Bacteria discharge into the watershed.

There is good bacteria, and there is bad bacteria, and if if I attempted to sort them out on this forum, "Death by Bordem" would be a good title.

A septic system may appear to the homeowner as working properly, yet bacteria are getting through his system and into the groundwater, or any streams, even sub-surface drainage, Maybe even his own well.

My advice, get in touch with your local extension agent, or soil and water conservation district. (Hank Kimble to all you old "Green Acres" fans), and he can get you the info and expert advice you need.

In Indiana alone, the authorities estimate that 40% of private septic systems are substandard, or failing.

The old ballasting formula problem, where every answer leads to another question. It remindes me of a course my stepson struggled with at PURDUE, Thermodynamics. I remember helping him with this class when he was home on holidays. Proper ballasting is like thermodynamics,,,,,,
all bets are hedged!

The proper rear ballast requirments are more in tune with total lift capacity of the F.E.L., and stability of the tractor and attacment at full lift hieght.

That is not to say that the ballast will be correct when the loader is on the tractor, with no weight in the bucket.

Saftey, is usually the main concern here,(although a tractor that does not steer seems a little...say...precarious).

Whenever you mention the word "saftey" to a manufacturer, sooner or later, the lawyers are involved and "saftey" is changed to "liability".

Given the competitiveness in the marketplace today, there is great attention given to the lift capacity and breakout capacity of loaders. The Stronger they are, the better they will sell. (Makes sense to me....trust me...it's a man thing).

Which leads us to another issue. Compacts are probably the most versatile tractor class in the marketplace, so these tractors need to be as light footed for lawncare as they are strong for F.E.L. and tillage work.

Hence the problem:

If we make this tractor light enough to mow the lawn, and put a F.E.L. on the front of it that will make "Atlas "look like a wimp, we will need to add some ballast.

How much? Well, that depends on what John Q. Customer is trying to lift.

Now....the lawyers step in.

"Better tell your engineers to overdue the rear ballast a bit lest we be "liable", and put the recomendations in print, lest we be worse than "liable".

"And what is worse than "liable"? you ask.

"Neglagence" the lawyers sing, in four part harmoney.

Sooooooo. What does this tell us????? Not much really. But that's the beautifull thing about lawyers.

My rule:

Your best defense is common sense.

Make the ballast weight easy to adjust, and easy to attatch and remove.

A few of Murphy's laws come to mind:

1) If you make something "Foolproof" only fools will use it.

2) To know yourself is the ultimate form of aggression (fraidian phsycoligy).

3) My loader will lift more than your loader.

I'm sorry to make light of all this, but I am in a particular good mood today, and we all do not smile nearly enough.
