I just purchased this model (with a Kubota FEL quick attach,<br>
standard bucket & 2 sets of rear hydraulic valves).<br>

I have a question concerning the model "year" of tractors.<br>

Since there is no title for tractors (as there is with automobiles), how do you determine the age of a tractor?<br>
<br>
Example: If I purchase a new tractor today (2004) that was manufactured in 2003... would this be considered a 2003 or 2004 tractor?<br>

Moot point since the deals coming out but it sounds like the valve is stuck in the open position so it's still send fluid into the cylinder even though it's already extended as far as it's going to go. Shouldn't happen and doesn't sound like a do it yourselfer job. Only other though is checking your flow control valve to make sure it's not in the full closed position. That would restrict any flow and freeze up the lift arms too.

I just picked up a 6ft woods rake new at auction for $325 which i've since found out is a pretty good price. Dealer would have wanted $425-500. I think the brands you mentioned are all comparable. I'd stay away from the really cheap ones as they seem pretty light duty and you can get to pulling a pretty heavy load if your're doing dirt and things. You should be able to get a decent one for under $500 unless you want guide wheels, then add about $125. (For nice finish grading I can see where they would be worth it but you can always add them later.) Try some auctions if you don't need it right away.

Forget about plowing with the loader. It'll do a great job for pushing back the banks but a lousy job at plowing because it doesn't "shed" the snow. Your first pass will be ok because after the bucket fills the rest spills out on each side. For an 800 ft driveway I'd go with either a back blade (at least 7ft because when you angle it you actually cut down the swath to about 6ft) or a front blade that replaces your bucket. That way you also have power angle. (About $1200. Still cheaper than a 3 pt snowblower) Just make sure your loader has a float position, helps a lot in not tearing up the driveway.

thanx for the input. I'm at 23 hours, coming up on my 50 and would have been inthe sameboat as you re: lining up the holes. You probably just saved me a bunch of aggravation! PS The instructions say to rinse off the screen with a non flammable liquid. What did you use?

I was a no experience tractor owner too and bought a new 2500DT. Not too hard to figure out and the manuals are decent. You'll come up with questions as you go but then that's what this board is for! I would go with the larger tractor if you can swing it. You say it's primarily for mowing but they're so versatile you'll come up with uses you hadn't thought of before and bigger is better (within reason!) I did note you have hills. The only thing that really surprised me was how easy it would be to roll one. (No suspension makes that a real possibility) On any type of slope or when doing loader work I wear the seatbelt religiously AND go slow. Good luck

I bought out of state and have been very happy so far. As you indicated the shipping was less than the sales tax but more than that the dealer was willing to deal to the tune of several thousand dollars less than my local dealer. You'll find people on this board who advocate supporting local business and kind of look down on not "buying local" I buy local whenever I can and always give them first shot but I think it would be pretty stupid to give a local dealer a few thousand dollars extra to subsidize an inflated profit margin when one has to assume that they probably get the units for a similar cost basis. The price is fair. (I just bought the same model for that price after a lot of searching) That was for the 4wd right? FYI it will take a 5ft bush hog unless your going through some really heavy stuff and then I would just cut a little higher. I have a 5ft box blade that it pulls just fine and 5ft seems to be the right implement size for this tractor but I have to agree with the last post. If you have 30 acres to bushhog you need a bigger tractor. I'd want something that would take a 7ft bushhog and you will notice you do get a lot more tractor for the buck if you go to a full size vs a compact.

No I have a 2500DT 4wd which is still the 27hp but the L series instead of the B series. Have only had it for a few months but like it a lot so far. (First tractor). Only thing I would change second time around is i would probably spring for the hydro and would go with R4's instead of the ags. (Just thought $14000 was enough to spend and didn't want to go another 2K.

Coming from Syracuse, NY and LOTS of snow I don't have the luxury of not using my tractor in sub zero temps! (Although it's definitely a luxury i wouldn't mind! However when you have to use your loader just to push back than banks enough to make room for your plow man so he has somewhere to put the next back of frozen white stuff you gotta get out in the cold! Anyway I haven't had any freezing problems yet with an LB400 loader.

thanx for the quick response and info. Helps my understanding a little and why I haven't needed to change connection points yet as all I have is a box blade and york rake. Both lift with no problem and adjusting the length of my top link works for the angle on both.

Same boat as u. Have two horses, 8ac. I'd like to get a spreader but can't justify it at this point for a $1000. I make a pile and even after a whole winter it wasn't that large. I spread it with my loader and then will rake it out with a york rake. Not ideal but pretty cheap. If/when we get more horses we'll probably go with a small spreader like the millcreek 25 or Fuerst ground driven. They should have no problem at all with wet manure. just don't load the spreader in winter unless you spread before it freezes. If you let it freeze you'll beat the hell out of the spreader and possibly pop some chains.

Tom - I assumed when he was talking about sch 40 and sch80 he was talking about the same pvc used in plumbing that he was going to use as conduit, hence the solvent comment. Also if you can make a watertight conduit, which is easy enough, why wouldn't you want to? I can't think of any downside to making the connections waterproof (unless you need some flex if not below the frost line and you get contraction/expansion??) Anyone with experience on laying conduit please advise if you shouldn't make fixed joint connections unless below the frost line.

I have a small horse farm (11 acres, 2 horses at moment, 4 eventually) and opted for the ags and a small garden tractor for finish mowing. I've been in some nasty mud that I couldn't imagine doing with turfs. I was pleasantly surprised at the traction of the ags. I also use a 5ft box blade and again the traction is well worth it. I may have been happy with the R4's but unless I was going to spend a lot of time on a finished lawn I would never go with turfs. I also don't know if turfs are as puncture resistant as the ags/R4's if you go out in the fields at all.

Landpride has a quick hitch system that looks like it is a single piece unit that attaches to your existing 3 pt hitch and allows "from the seat" attachment/detachment. I don't know the price but I've included the web page. Has anyone used this type of quick hitch? Not having to buy a sister piece for each implement is a big plus and this doesn't look like it should be too expensive a piece of equipment

I was in the same boat as you looking for a good used one but found out that unless you get lucky you don't save much. Many used tractors were actually selling for more than they cost brand new so I opted for a new one since I'm going to have it a long time and they don't seem to depreciate much. You're in the right size. I wouldn't go any lower than a 25hp for what you have to do but make sure you get a loader (60inch bucket minimum) (We have 2 horses, indoor arena and 11 acres of open field that will get bushogged) We have a 3/4 ton Ram quad cab too but I couldn't justify the extra $4K for a diesel when we put on less than 10k miles per year. Good luck

Don't know about the kioti but am very pleased with my L2500DT. For only a $500 difference I would go with the better known and more popular selling one which is the Kubota. The only downside I see is no live PTO which would be a plus. Other than that I'm very happy so far (Only have 13 hours on it)
