I have a JD750 which is about 20hp at the PTO. I regularly use a JD550 tiller (which is a four foot industrial tiller) and have no problem with it. The tiller is offset so that it will cover any tracks left by the right rear tire. If tilling in virgin ground, I make at least two passes before going to full depth, but in working ground that has been worked before (ie, garden, etc.) I go to full depth on the first pass and always till with the tractor in first gear.
