I definitely wouldn't worry much about whether your TC will handle a two bottom, if you've got a decent set of weighted ag tires on it for traction. Turf tires might give you a lot of slippage.

I've been running a TC29 for three years now. Bought it for handling the work around the horse barn, but it's worked out to be my main farm tractor. Does the haying on 100 acres of darn hilly ground with a PTO baler, and I pull an Aerway 9 foot harrow with it no problem. My IH manure spreader is ground-driven, and was built for a bigger tractor - 50 horse recommended - but the Boomer never misses a beat with it.

Pretty strong machine, in my opinion. In the three years of hard work I've given it, the biggest repair was a broken bolt on the loader control.

I've been reading over this thread, after I had commented very early on about PTO driven vs. standalone generators, and I still hold the position that a PTO generator is overkill for most homes or small farms, and the expense and wear and tear on the tractor isn't justified. If you have a bad storm and lose power for four or five days, why put an added 100 or so hours on the tractor?

Our 5000 watt standalone runs continuously during a power outage, and keeps us perfectly comfortable. The only thing it won't run is the electric water heater, and we're looking at switching over to gas for water heating anyways. And if the power's out because of a heavy snow storm, I don't have to disconnect and be without power while I'm moving that snow with the tractor bucket.

If you're worrying about months without electricity from Y2K, don't. Call your power company and find out what their situation is before you spend a lot of money. Most of them have either solved any Y2K problems they had, or have a workaround. No power company is going to go for months without being able to bill their customers! And if our power company said we'd be without electricity for five or six months, I'd go buy a standalone - a diesel, if I was worried about fuel storage. No way I'd put that many hours on my Boomer just to generate power!

Has anyone managed to cross reference the New Holland oil filters for the TC29 to the standard brand names like Fram, etc.? My auto parts dealer doesn't have any information on this, and it's just a pain in the tractor seat to go chasing all the way to my NH dealer for a simple oil filter.<br>If anyone has the correct part number for another brand, and knows which is the best brand filter to use, please let me know!

I will say that this problem is not the fault of the dealer, and it doesn't result from poor service. The problem comes from a fault in the<br>engine design on the old model Boomers.<br>Those of you that followed the story of my 1725 here and on Machinery Forum will remember that the smoky exhaust from the 1725 was making<br>me sick after working with the tractor for only 15 to 45 minutes. Both NH and the dealer got a rude awakening when I decided that<br>the tractor was going out to a materials lab for exhaust and engine analysis, and that if the exhaust was a health risk to me, a lawsuit<br>would be filed promptly against both NH and dealer.<br>The last straw came when I discovered that the whole end of the exhaust, both inside and back about eight inches on the outside,<br>was wet and dripping oil. At that point (about 55 hours) the engine was also noticeably losing power. The writ was being made out to<br>start suit when NH and the dealer decided that they would replace my 1725 with a TC29. The replacement was done at no additional<br>cost to me.<br>I am told by the dealer and NH that I am probably the only person in the world with heavy work experience with both the older and<br>the newer Boomer models. That said, I can tell you that no one needs to be scared to buy a TC. I also have working experience with<br>Kubota and Deere, and I would choose a TC anyday over one of those makes.<br>NH clearly corrected their mistakes when they designed the TC models. The TC was delivered to<br>me at the end of November, and I now have approximately 345 hours on it. This tractor has been severely tested, as I always work<br>machines to and beyond their capacity. Most of my work is loader work, and I have moved large rocks, hauled full buckets of heavy fill,<br>plowed snow, towed other equipment, shifted a 60 ft. mobile home to a new position, lifted and moved 1000 lb downed cow, hauled<br>manure, run the bush hog, hauled my trailer with 10,000 or so lbs. of hay bales, and, as posted below, run my hay tedder, and run<br>several hundred bales of day through my PTO driven JD 14T baler. I have yet to feel the tractor strain under load. I have yet to find the<br>job the TC29 can't do. I recommend the TC's without reservation, and for anyone that wants a compact all-around tractor for the small<br>farm, the TC29 and TC33 is without a doubt the best tractor on the market today.<br>NH is going to have to come to the realization that customer satisfaction is more important than the temporary loss they may take<br>replacing these machines. They replaced mine, and due to my happiness with the TC29, they sold five more TC's that I know of. The<br>loss they took on the replacement was more than evened out - they made a profit off replacing that tractor! If they replace Kevin's,<br>and he is happy enough with the TC to recommend even two people who buy TC's, they make a profit off replacing his tractor.

I don't use my mower with the Boomer, Mike. I have a Zweeger disc job that rides<br>on the 3 point at right angles to the tractor. The mower doesn't have any real<br>ground support, just the 3 point. It's too heavy for the Boomer - would tip the<br>tractor! I wouldn't hesitate to use a mower conditioner on the Boomer, though.<br>I've now spend 2 days baling with the Boomer, and it put up around 300 bales all<br>told without a problem. I've used a mower conditioner in the past, and I'm sure<br>the Boomer would handle one of those.

I don't have the TC33, mine is a TC29 gear job. But, if you like the hydrostatic,<br>I think you'll be very happy with the '33. All of the TC's have a differential lock<br>as standard equipment. You'll find you won't use it much though. I've probably used<br>it 3 times in 200 hours, in soupy mud. I've been taking the tractor through some pretty rough terrain,<br>as we had the trees cut off the back 60 acres, and I've been working out there. Haven't<br>had to use the diff lock once.<br>For Doug - I'm really surprised that you had trouble with your TC29. After using one for<br>so long now, I don't think I'd go the extra money for that few additional horses. I haven't<br>yet found the job my TC29 can't do - and if you could see what I do with this tractor you'd<br>shudder!!

My farm is on a hillside, and I have varying slopes from moderate to steep. When I<br>bought my Boomer, I had the dealer put on liquid weighted ag tires, and I've been very happy<br>with them. I do a lot of loader work, and the weighted tires balance the loader well. The only<br>time I've wished for chains has been during this last winter, when we had about<br>four inches of ice on the ground. Under those conditions, though, NO tire would have<br>given traction! In straight snow, I have no problem. I've used a Kubota with a weight box<br>on the three point, and it was a pain. The weight at the rear made the front end a little too<br>light for my liking, and it definitely did not give me the kind of stability I<br>like to have when the tractor was sideways to the slope. I've never had a problem in mud,<br>and I've had that tractor in pretty deep!

For a $3,500 difference, I would stick with either the TC29 or TC33. I originally bought<br>a 1725, and NH replaced that tractor with a TC29, because I had so much trouble <br>with it. There were problems with the engines on the previous models, and I ran into<br>those problems before I even had 50 hours on the tractor. I've heard from other <br>people who have had similar problems. The TC models have a redesigned<br>engine, which I can testify is much more reliable!! I have over 200 hard hours<br>on my TC29 now, mostly loader work, and now it's turning the hay tedder, and I'm<br>going to try it with the baler next weekend. Never a service call in all those hours,<br>compared to service calls once a week with the 1725.

Hate to disagree with Scaper, but I think whether you get the 29 or the 33 is<br>just a matter of personal choice, especially for what you want to do with it. I<br>have the TC29, and it's been put to a lot of HARD work, as I mostly use it for<br>loader work. No problems, and nothing stops it! These TC's are great.

If you are thinking about NH, DON'T consider anything but the new TC models. I had<br>a 1725. The engine was bad, and ultimately NH had to replace the tractor with a<br>TC29. The engines in the TC models have been redesigned to correct a lot of problems.

I have a TC29, with loader and 9/3 tranny, loaded ag tires, and horses and cows. <br>A big influence when I choose the Boomer was it's overall physical size compared to<br>other tractors. My temporary horse barn has a 10 foot aisleway, and 10X10 stalls.<br>When I had to redo the stall bases due to flooding, I was able to dig them out and<br>refill with the tractor by just taking the fronts and dividing wall, and doing two<br>at a time. The tractors size and maneuverability made it easy. I use it for all the<br>hauling in the horse and cow barns, manure buckets, bedding, everything that saves<br>my back! I did not bother with a mower for mine, but I hay my fields, and it will<br>pull my tedder and small baler, while I use the big Oliver for the disc mower. I<br>highly recommend the TC29!

Well, we're both happy with our machines, and that's what counts! It's interesting<br>to hear from a Kioti owner that has done some real work with the tractor. Most of <br>the people that I know that have one around here just use the tractor for light<br>hauling around the barn - bags of feed, sawdust, etc.

Aw heck, don't discourage the poor man too much! I bought my Case 530 loader/backhoe<br>for $500, with two backhoe buckets and two loader buckets. It ain't pretty, but it<br>works hard. Just before I bought it, I looked at an Oliver loader/backhoe in great<br>shape for $2,000. Granted, you have to be willing to scour the ads, and have the ability<br>to judge whether there's sound mechanicals under that dingy paint and rust, but<br>there are bargains out there.

Whoa, wait a minute. Why should you have to take the tractor to the dealer if you<br>need service? Damned if I'd ever go through that trouble. My dealer sends a service<br>man to me. Most dealers have their service people on the road, or will pick up<br>the tractor themselves if it needs to go into the shop.<br>Just to note, I have over 120 hours on my TC29, and haven't needed service. Do my<br>own oil, grease and filters, everything's pretty accessible and easy to work on.

Well, my dealer and NH tell me I am the only person in the US with working<br>experience with both a 1725 Boomer and a TC29 Boomer, so I'll try to answer your<br>question. The 1725, and the other 25 and 30 models had a *lot* of problems. Smoky,<br>noisy, loss of power, etc. I had so much trouble with the 1725 that NH replaced<br>the tractor with a TC29. Now *thats* a tractor! It's quieter, more powerful, and<br>does not smoke unless it's a cold start, and then only for a minute or so. NH redesigned<br>the engines for the new TC models, and it's made a total difference. I farm, so<br>I've done a lot of heavy work with my TC, and I'm very happy with it overall. Mine<br>has the 9/3 tranny, loader, and loaded ag tires. It's become a joke around here that it's my<br>liveaboard tractor, because it does everything from just carrying me down to the<br>barn when it's too icy to walk, to hauling fill, digging ditches, skidding logs, <br>plowing snow, and much in between. I heartily recommend the TC's to anyone looking<br>for a good, reliable tractor. I do my own maintenance, greasing, oil, etc., and<br>I haven't had a service call in over 120 hours.

The 1725 Boomers had bad engines in them, as did the other Boomer models. The engine was redesigned for the TC models. Stay away from the older Boomers. I bought a 1725 in August, and had so much trouble with it that NH replaced in with a TC29 in November. I'm sure there are still some of the older models around that dealers are trying to get rid of!

Mine's a TC29, and it's a great do everything tractor. I think the 7308 loader is also put on the TC33 - it's got plenty of lift and capacity. Tractor balances well with a full bucket of silt fill with loaded tires. Buy the TC33 - you'll probably love it.

Glad to hear you're so happy with the new tractor!! Now that I have the TC29, I love mine. I'm glad you mentioned the warranty - I didn't pay attention to that<br>when they replaced the tractor. The old Boomers, I believe, only had a one year,<br>1000hr. warranty. Interesting that they've increased it so much. With the way I'm workin' this tractor, I'll never make it to two years, though! The hours will rack up too fast.

Hey Tex, just have your dealer fill the tires with the calcium solution. Mine are filled, I've got plenty of traction, and I only occasionally lift the rear end off the ground :-} The TC 29 with the filled tires balances pretty well, in all seriousness. I've been carrying FULL bucket loads of a silt clay mix that is very heavy, downhill, through the mud, and no problems. It gives me better traction than the C530 with a hoe on the back and wheel weights!
