I would have to belive that you need to engage the PTO at the lowest engine RPM allowed. I think that the clutch grabing hard is to prevent premature wear on the clutch plates. If the clutch were to slowly engage I think you would be putting clutch packs in a lot more often than you wanted to. My 4310 eHydro does not slam per-say but you do know it is engaged, I do throttle down to idle.

I have a 4310 ehydro and the 72" Mid mount. I have mine in the middle hole and the front mount was a snap to just set in the slots and rotate it into place using the little handle attached to it.Took me about half an hour to mount the mower. At first I had the forward links in the front hole and the tires rubbed on the deck with it in the center hole things are much better.

Pretty sad way to judge a product, in my opinion. I have found just the opposite in my area. I still think both are excellent machines. I could not get the time of day from the Kubota dealer

I got my 790 in April of 1999 and put 200 plus hours on it with no maintenance problems whats so ever. To be honest I never adjusted the clutch or brakes in the 3 and half years I owned it. Most of the use was loader and mowing 6 acres.I moved up to a JD 4310 for the Hydro trans and added a mid mower to it. The reasons for this were so my wife and daughter could feel comfortable driving the tractor and loader. I am in the Military and face long deployments away from home and needed to feel comfortable that my family could still maintain the drive way in winter and lawns in the summer. The bottom line is the JD 790 is a great tractor for the dollar. I sold mine for $800.00 less than I paid for it.

I think I would be concerned with the hoses and cylinders being subject to much more stress and pressure than designed for. You may be asking for trouble and not know it. The hoses or cylinders could be weakend from the higher loads and pressures and fail at the recommended working limits when you least expect it. New Holland limited the lift capacity for reasons not always obvious to us as the users.

Matthews: I was surfing last night for the same information and down loaded a manual. I have it on my system at home and can email it to you as a attachment tonight or tomorrow if you would like it. I found it to be pretty in depth and has lots of pictures.( I like pictures) helps to better understand what the text is trying to discribe.

I am with Art, when you shift the front axle forward and Pivot it in a turn a lot is going. I would also be concerned with loader use that it would be to easy to over steer. (I passed on a good deal on a TC33D because of super steer). Plus I also understand the ground speed is reduced automaticaly seems like a lot of things to wearout and expensive ones at that. People don't have concerns with this techonogly, but worry about the possibility of a $10.00 switch going bad in the John Deere tractors. I belive the automotive and trucking industry have had electronicelly controlled engines and transmissions for better than 25 years, seems to me the bugs should be worked out by now. I think it would be a safe bet that something as basic and simple as a compact tractor should do just fine.

The spec's for the 790 from the John Deere site state that it is Engage On-the-Go Rear Differential Lock

I have a three point 55 gal sprayer, it has a 15 foot boom and a hand wand with a 150 foot spray reach. I went with the three point model in the intrest of not having one more engine to matain. I use it for roundup and liquid fertilizer. It is also good for spraying insect killer on my trees during the summer. You need to make sure it is cleaned real good when switching from roundup to fertilizer ar bug spray. I have also use it to spray for summer bugs.

I just tossed out a quick reply from work today, sorry about not having a profile. I have now regestered and completed my profile. I to have watched the two pedal issue and have not been able to catch myself hitting both. I plow in B range, so not sure if I have the same problem in other ranges. The cruise thing is a problem I will need corrected. My dealer is excellent and I havce a good relationship with them, this is my second Johnnie Popper. I will buy from the again if the need arises.
