I have a few newbie questions about chipper/shredders.<br>- Why PTO over standalone? (i think this is an easy one, but perhaps i'm missing something)<br>- What features should i look for? I have about 60-70 trees. Big Ciders and Sycamores that I hack and slash on about once or twice a year plus many downed limbs after every storm.<br>- What is the price range of the PTO models?<br>- Any special care and feeding required?<br>- Any

I am a newbie to tractors, and had a TC29D, but recently upgraded to a TC33D. I am VERY happy with it. I primarily use it for mowing and I can do 5+ acres (all very steep hills) with many trees to go around in under 3 hours.<br>sure beats the 7-8 it was taking with my 25HP Sears garden!! The 33 has lots or horses when pulling downed tree and heavyier work. I like the power.<br>If you have a lot of hills (like i do) i highly recommend a test drive at your location to make sure it does what you want. <br>My 29 had a little trouble, and the 33 made such a big difference, i suspect my 29 had have a slight transmission defect. <br>My dealer wa able to local a 33D for me and have it delivered in under a week. All TCxx serices have the differential lock. (luck perhaps?)<br>Also, some things you can do to help yourself out on the hills. - fill the tires to lower your center of gravity and dish out the tires to widen your base.<br>Be slow and CAREFUL on hills!!! I have tested out every feature on my 33D except the ROPS and don't plan on doing that anytime soon.<br>I also have the supersteer option - SWEET SWEET SWEET. It manuvers better than my little garden tractor but it can cause some turf damage if you are going too fast or are turning to sharpe into a hill.<br>Hydro is great! I have heard you lose about 10% of the power by going hydro (some people say this is not true - I don't know), but if you do a lot of loader work or need to do a lot of speed/direction changes it's worth it.<br>Only thing i have heard against the TC series is some people don't like the plastic. I figure every ten to fifteen years I can buy a new hood and side panals for a few cents if i need to, so this does not bother me.<br>I figure i want the weight and metal toughness where it matters - engine, frame, axles, etc....<br>I have also read where the JD is slightly easier to use in hooking up 3pt equipment, but i have no first hand experience with this. The 33 is pretty easy for one person to do with the deluxe linkage.<br>It rides smooth and comfortable and is much quieter than i expected. Starts great and is easy on the fuel.<br>Well - thats all i can think of - I am extremely happy with my 33. Good luck and happy tractoring...........<br>

I am also a newbie here, but i thought that using the 3 point to do pulling is not recommended becauae the load is<br>tied in above the back axle. I seem to recall something about this being bad for two reasons. 1) impacts the ability to<br>control the load on hills 2) It is possible to upset the tractor backwards if the load causes the tractor's front tires to raise and the back end keeps commin forward.<br>Number 2 probably relates more to stump removing or log moving but.... an 18 foot utility trailer sounds like it could get loaded up real good.<br>Would any of you see this as an issue?

Regardless, i was wishin i had spent the few hundred dollars extra for the 33. When you are spending that much money
how much is 600-700 dollars spread out over the life of the tractor. Anyway, when the dealer offfered to upgrade me, i took it. It took about 3 days for them to locate a 33D and a few more to put
on all the attachments and deliver it. I should get it today or tomorrow.
