I have a JD 4310 with a Landpride 15-50 tiller,seems to
have plenty of power for this 50" tiller,tiller will start
jumping before the engine pulls down. Not to change the
subject but does anybody know what to charge for tiling a
approx.40x60 garden? I,m going to till up a few gardens
and just curious what to charge...thanks Dan

Here are a few things to check...have you changed the oil
lately? Does the engine run up to temp (180-190F).Is your
hydralic fluid over full and black? Does the engine have
lots of blow by? Do you ever see blue smoke from the
exhaust(at start up or under a load)?

Justin,I bet this engine didn't run for very long on gas,
diesel engines won't run very well on straight gas if at
all,gas needs a spark plug to fire.Put some oil in each
cylinder might get some compression back,the unfired
gas could of washed the cylinders dry...good luck

Congrats,I'm sure you will love it.Don't hurt yourself
with the quick hydralics compared to the ole TO20,I put
alot of hours on a TO20 when I was a pup,good tractor but
the hydralics would put you to sleep waiting on it.
Just curious how much cheaper was the 420 over the 430
loader?

MT,I bought a 425 aws a few years ago and since traded it
for a 4310. The 425 aws is great for mowing around things
but I found its hard to mow fast and hold a straight line,
you are always over correcting the steering.If you have a
big open area to mow buy the standard 425.One problem area
with the rear steering is the upper ball joints get loose
after extended use,grab the top of the rear tire and rock
it side to side to check for looseness.4k is no bargin unless its in perfect shape.Around this area(iowa)another
1 to 2K will get you a 455 w/60" deck and much easier on
fuel too.........I hope this helps,Dan

Was at a Ag show the other day and seen a McCormick GX45
had a 2.0L 44hp yanmar,shuttle shift,R4's,frops,made in
Italy by Landini (i think?) nice price....$15,000.The
hydro model was $1400 more.

Called Cat salesman today,the model they have sitting on the show room floor is a challenger MT265(not 40).
Its made by Agco,the same as Agco-Allis and Massey.
It has a 33hp Iseki 3cyl. engine,3 range hydro,r4 tires,
no mid PTO(optional)fixed ROPS,hydro pedal is like NH's
steel fenders and hood.Looks just like a Massey except its
yellow....list price 22k..sale price $18,300 sounds a little high to me.

Hardwood,what is the secret to releasing a stuck clutch
on a B farmall (parade tractor)its my boss's tractor,
he has sprayed about everything on the clutch for a year
while that clutch pedal has been tied down.He does not want
to take it a part to avoid chipping the nice paint....
I live in the Cedar Rapids area.Where did you buy your
4310? I love mine....thanks Dan

Just got back(Iowa) from a snowmobile trip in the snowy mountain range,Wyoming. My Friend drove his Duramax crew
cab,k2500 HD pulling 4 snowmobiles,set cruise at 78mph
across Nebraska(75mph speed limit)got 12 mpg,not a lot
of weight but the 102" wide trailer pushes a lot
of wind at 78mph,also coming east out of Laramie going
up "sherman" 6% grade and 2 miles long,we set the cruise
at 78 mph again the transmission never kicked out of overdrive and torque converter never unlocked.My k1500
w/5.3L (285hp) auto,pulls the same hill with same load
at 52mph in 3rd gear and much less mpg.My friend says he
gets 20mpg in the summer unloaded with his duramax.My
local Chevy dealer says they will put the duramax in
Suburbans in 2004 or 2005....I will be the first in line.

Kadorken,thats a very good price if that 4310 has ehydro.
I paid 21k for 4310,72mmm,frops,430ldr,R4's and all ehydo options.The difference in 60mmm and 72mmm was $600.00
I love the 72mmm,it makes my yard look like a golf course
and the deck sticks out past the wheels,I don't think the
60mmm sticks out past the rear tires.I I'm trying to figure
out a cheap way to build a "Top&Tilt",so far I have found
the top cylinder in Northern Tools for $59.00 will fit
and hook up perfect(snow plow cyl.) 4th&5th valve for
$149.00,will make my own hoses.Anybody have ideas for a
tilt cylinder,all the cylinders I have found have the wrong
ends except JD's of course they are very pricey...thanks

BUCKMASTER,injection timing is very important and early
timing can cause premature rod bearing failure but I think
you have a single injector problem,try moving around a
couple of injectors to different cylinders to see if the
knock moves too. Just because you might have installed
rebuilt or remanufactured injectors doesnt mean they
are working properly.I have installed leaky or bad
reman injector nozzles before.I'm not impressed with some
of the reman companys out there.Just a tiny bit of dirt
in a injector will make it fail also....good luck

Art,Have you ever sold any of those new Case quad tracks?
My boss has a ST370 (stieger)he pulls twin dirt scrapers
with it.The operator said he can snuff the big Cummins before the tracks ever spin,unless he is in mud.Have you
heard of any problems with these new Quad Tracks? Nothing
to do with CUT's but I thought of this when you said"let'em
spin".

Brian,you mentioned that you changed some pulleys,did you
change the drive pulley?The drive pulley carrys much greater load than the 3 driven pulleys.Here some simple
things to retrace...Is the belt flopping or rubbing on something,does the belt tensioner pivot freely,does each
pulley have approx. 2/3 belt wrap around it?Is
the belt on correct(it could be on the wrong side of a
idler or belt tensioner,is it the correct belt?Is the
belt tensioner spring hooked in the proper place?Is the
belt tensioner pivot wore out and out of alignment?
Let us know what you find.........

I agree these little compacts do tip easy,was moving wet heavy clay about a month ago,I was in a hurry backing up
with a full bucket of clay and the left front wheel dropped
in a small hole,the right rear wheel came off the ground as
the 72"mmm was keeping me from tipping over.Bucket was only
18" off the ground.My old JD2640 would have never tipped that easy being much heavier and wider.I guess it was a
cheap lesson for the price of soiled pants....I think I'm
learning the limits of my 4310

Took my 4310 into the local JD dealer for a little warranty
work the other day,heres what I had done...fuel gauge sender was seeping a little,they replaced with a updated
style.The fan blade rubbed the shroud at one time,they replaced both the shroud&fan blade.I told them the rocker
arms seemed noisy after hours of running,they adjusted all
valve lash.Dash fogged over when warm,they replaced dash
glass.All covered under warranty,2 days later I picked it
up it was washed and detailed.I wonder if the service would
have been this good if I had bought the tractor from them?
I also asked them about the ehydro controllers,they said
"ya we changed one but it was just the pedal sensor out
of adjustment".Just thought I would throw this in since you
guys were talking about warranty....dh

jdfan,Thats a great price,heres what I paid....4310,430 loader,61 bucket,hood guard,72"mmm,oversized R4's,no
fluid in tires,all e-match options,delivered 100 miles,
5.9 interest rate on JD loan,also folding ROPS $21,500
I would stick with the turf tires if you do alot of
mowing,I have to let my yard dry out for a day or two after
a rain because the R4's leave prints.....you will love the
load match feature..its great

Here is my solution for my hauling needs at a little less
money...I bought a 92 yamaha 4 stroke golf cart ($900) and
built a alum.dump box for it($150).Will haul 500 lbs.rides
great,great gas mileage,the kids have a blast on it and is
easy on the grass.For bigger loads I have a 1980 chevy
3/4 ton 4x4 w/8ft box ($1500)I put a hyd.dump hoist under
the box from northern hydralic ($900)great for hauling
fire wood out of the timber,have hauled/dumped 5000 lbs
of lime with it,etc. Total price..$3450 a little bit
cheaper than a mule.I think I'm going to sell my polaris
explorer 4x4 since I have not used it in 9 months.
My neighbor bought a golf cart like mine but put a
lift kit on it and ATV tires...great for off road hauling.
Just my 2 cents........
