Lookin at buying a B7500 and looking for help on a couple of points:<br>

What are the Pros and Cons of a ground contact mower deck versus a suspended one?<br>
<br>
Apparently the tractor has a dynometer instead of a alternator. The alternator is a upgrade. At what point is this worth it? The only extra electrical load would be a small pump on a sprayer, which has worked OK on my old JD110 with a dynometer.<br>

I've run a 9N tractor for clearing snow for over 30 years. It had the following: calcium filled rear tires for weight, heavy duty front and rear tire chains with studs ( it is very important to have the studs big enough to stick above the lug bars on the tires- even dealers get confused over this main point) and a FRONT blade for pushing the snow. The front blade was about a thousand dollars more than the rear blade but worth every penny. A tractor isn't worth a damn thing if the wheels just spin so get good chains above all else. For winter starting make sure the engine is nice and warm. I used an electric heater (the new ceramic heaters are the best for this) put under the hood and I covered the tractor hood with a lot of blankets to really warm up the front end of the tractor. I was planning to get a magnetic heater to heat up the transmission to get the hydralics working faster, especially when it got really cold. A battery blanket is a very good idea. Then get a tuneup before every winter and this machine will do what you need. Also buy yourself winter work coveralls, good winter boots, gloves and polar fleece underwear.

Yes I have one that I use for grinding up rocks to make that rock dust fertilizer for the grass :>) . Great unit! It even cuts grass!

Buy the hoe, Augustus! or get a younger helper. The backhoe comes right after the FEL in terms of usefulness and is well worth the hassle of taking it on and off.

I am about to purchase a John Deere Model 9, 3 point hitch that is six and a half foot sickle bar mower to run on my 24hp Kubota B2400. Does anybody have any experience with this mower for cutting hay? I don't and would love to get some advice on operating this mower. Currently it is in the middle of a field covered with snow and I want to mount it on the tractor and check it out. What should I watch out for? Thanks for ideas....

Denny, glad to hear no injuries. I bought the B2400 specifically to work on hills after my research showed it to be the lowest to the ground with the most power. I have front and back tires filled with the maximum of calcium to get that weight as low down as possible. I also want it there all the time as you never know when you need it in advance.
Jumping off a machine is a pretty risky option. Usually things happen so fast you can't do this.

Put your money into good chains! Actually, get the best chains. I have 7/16 stud grader chains on my B2400. Even if the chain slips into the Ag tire lugs, there is a 1/2 inch stud still sticking out. Best traction I have found. My next project is to double chain my set. I had to hand build them as I couldn't find them available from any dealer.

I am mostly disappointed in the comments here. There has been a 9N in my family for almost 45 years and has been used for all kinds of work.It is a damn good tractor and will still be around after everybody on this list is long dead. So lets show a little respect for this machine.
No, this tractor can't do everything but you will never buy a better tractor for the price made by anybody, anywhere, anytime. You also have to know what the hell you are doing to run one. Whining weekend experts who have calluses on their butts instead of their hands need to learn a few more things from old timers still.

Trust me to forget another critical thing! ALWAYS have an opening to the outside when burning ( we have a cat door) and a carbon monoxide alarm (along with your already installed smoke alarm) if you are sleeping in the building. Also have 2 or 3 fire extinguishers spread around the building. This is plain, simple, common-sense advice to prevent family tragedy. Have very strict rules about the handling of the stove, such as loading etc, with children etc. It is better to be safe than very, very sorry. AND another thing, make sure your stove and chimney are shielded and that nothing combustible is within 3 feet.

I am also considering a winch for my Kubota B20 and will probably go with a <br>Mile Marker unit designed for trucks. Mostly because it is narrower in profile for its 10000 lb capacity to mount in front of my rad. It'll be used for light skidding but mostly to get the machine into snowmobile trails up here.

As a new owner of an old B20 I can say I don't regret my decision. The loader issue is addressed by all manufacturers in a positive way. The backhoe however is addressed differently. Even my B20 manual says no 3 point hitch backhoe allowed. My primary concern was of the strength of the 3 pt hitch, mainly the top link particularly when digging towards the machine. The B20 now discontinued in favour of a B21 has a frame to carry everything including the loader whereas a 3 pt unit does not. The manufacturers may disagree and there are probably many happy 3 point users out there but the frame is what influenced my decision. My friend with a L3600 is faced with the same dilemna and has expressed good reviews on the frame setup vs the 3 pt. The frame offers some disadvantages as various messages on these sites have stated. Buy the machine that will do what you will do most.

I did mega homework on compact tractors and concluded the B20 was for me. I am taking delivery of a very used one this week (2000 hours). I have tried a B21 and am told they are similar and really liked it. Some things you will appreciate are: a frame that everything mounts to meaning it is made with the loader and backhoe in mind, a flip back seat, the hoe is closer to the tractor than a 3 point set up, hoe can disconnect leaving remote hydraulic hookups, 4 wheel drive, good clearance, 15500 US is about 23400 Can dollars which is on par with the other units I checked with the little hours you mentioned. Should you buy or hear read of any other experiences with the B20 I'd like to hear about them. I followed what was on the net but found very little. See my post further down.

Anyone care to share their experience with a B20 TLB. I would like to know how many hours some of you have on them. Any recurring problems I should be aware of. Any tips or tricks or personal improvements made to your machine. What about operating in rugged country such as construction of snowmobile trails. Will share my experience and photos once machine arrives and snow here dissappears.<br>Thanks
