What's Rim Guard ? The Bill of sale for my L3400 says Rear tires loaded with rim guard. Does anyone have information on Rim Guard and its benifits as ballast ? Thanks, Ben

Kthompson; I was'nt talking about you being on a different subject. I was talking to Bo, the post just before yours. I appreciated your message and all the other messages on this subject. I also like canoeing, but I did'nt think you guys would want me and Bo talking about it on this forum. I would like to hear more about my best options for back ballast. I like the message talking about pouring concrete around a draw bar I'll try and calculate the weight I need. Thanks, Ben

My L3400 is 58" wide at the rear tires. I would like to get a box blade for this tractor. Should I get a 60" or 72" ? What size will this tractor pull ? Any brands or models that would be best ? I maintain a 1200' and a 400' gravel driveway. Thanks, Ben

I have an L3400 with 11.2 24 AG tires on the rear. I have a 1200 ft. driveway that needs clearing when plowing with the pickup gets tough. Its a dirt drive that gets very icey. Where can I get chains for these back tires? What type chain is best for the conditions I have? Thanks, Ben

MY lawn is about 20 x 30 not including the fire pit. I do mow a small field and around my 35 apple trees. As Art mentioned I will be using the tractor mostly for back 40 work. I'm mostly hearing that AG's would be my best bet. Thanks for all the input. BEN

yanmar model numbers tell a lot about the tractor: the first 2 numbers are the pto horsepower, since everywhere but america they don't bother with engine hp, that translates to 26 pto hp for you. The second 2 numbers show the generation and transmission. the 10 on your 2610 means it is a second generation of their thousand series, and therefore has the "powershift" sychro transmission. the presence of a D at the end means mfwd. a B would mean the second version of the same generation. if they could have only worked the production year in there... incidently, the 2610 was built from 79 to 81.

I don't want to speak incorrectly for treeman here, but i think he just wants to get rid of the scotch pine and let the rest of the trees grow naturally, not harvest them as christmas trees. murf-where are you located so that you can get so much ca$h for pine? on the ma/vt/nh border good hardwood is the only valuable firewood...maybe treeman could haul his harvest to wherever you are and make a killing! chipping is a worthwhile option to consider as well, although 6" might be a bit thick. perhaps there's local college in need of materials for a bonfire? :)

i found this picture of a simple "self levelling" design on a grey market tractor. I've seen this basic design on other tractors as well, but with the cylinder placed further up on the boom. I wonder how well these work?

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for someone deciding which tractor would better suite their needs. The 1500d is mfwd, while the 2000 is of course not. The other difference is the size and hp, 2000=24hp,2000(approx)lbs, 1500d=18hp, 1279lbs. These 2 tractors can generally be had for about the same price, so I was wondering what opinions you all have on this matter of weight+power vs. MFWD.<br>The tractors would be used mainly for field mowing and hauling a hydraulic dump trailer...and since tillers seem to come with all grey markets, some tilling every so often as well! Front weights would be added to either to balance out the rear weight. thanks.

The JD 430 is the predecessor to the 455 and is quite similar to the 455, although I have heard that they are more heavily built and tougher (just opinions i have heard on the john deere garden tractor yahoo club). I don't know if you are looking for deere impliments, but deere still makes many impliments that will fit the 430, in fact many of the impliments for the current 400 series will also say they are compatible with the 420/430 models. Any impliment for a 455 out there should be available for the 430 as well. (althought it depends, what are you looking for exactly?). Hope this helps.<br>

I can't say I have experience with your exact situation, but I can give you my advise:<br>1) the plowing question will depend in large part on the grade of the driveway. It may be difficult to plow uphill oh a steep slope, even with chains and/or rear ag tires (I think i'd recommend chains since you needn't worry about scarring your blacktop). Otherwise the 54

2)In my experience, finish mowers tend to choke on anything other than normal lawn. Although they do a great job of finish mowing, they don't do very well in tall grass or weeds. If your field is mowed relatively often, you may be able to pull it off with a 60" deck, but another option is the M40, a 40" light duty 540rpm PTO rotary tiller that Woods makes especially for the JD 400 series.
3)as for dirt moving, I have no experience except the really loose stuff left after a larger machine is through with it, so I'm really not sure if the front blade will handle any packed dirt or turf. I know that the blade is really only designed for light dirt work, but you may be able to push that a bit.
Anyway, i hope i've helped a little.
