I have a 4400 MFWD that is 2.5 years old (700 hrs). We operate a ten acre vegetable farm. I have replaced the rock shft control valve and several components in the front axle assembly. Recently both sides of the front end locked up while running in 2WD. The dealer took it apart, put it back together and told me they couldn't identify the problem. Can anyone direct me to lists of documented problems, recalls, PIPs, etc for this machine. I'm very disappointed with this tractor and the dealer.

I do not know of a site for pips or problems.

There are several problem areas listed on this site under various threads. I would search for "4*** pips". However none of them touch your issue except the rock shaft and I believe that was only a seal issue but do not remember for sure.

The original front ends have a geometery problem and it was corrected on the newer ones. There is no difference other than tie rods and location.

I've had the front end apart on mine to replace seaping seals. From what I've seen there it is a rock solid simple design. I would look farther back where the gears mesh to drive the front. I can no way envision the front diff locking up unless it had a mechanical failure.

Keep us posted. Thanks Harvey ....

Thanks for your reply. I agree that it is probably back in the transmission where the gears mesh to drive the front end, especially since the front end freed up after I disconnected the front drive shaft. I did not find any metal chips in the fluid when I drained the transmission. I plan to split it this week. It is still confusing to me why both wheels would lock up if the problem is behind the drive shaft. I'll post what I find. ....

If the input shaft is frozen/locked by whatever means the wheels will not turn.

GOOD LUCK ....
