Has anyone ever heard of a Hudson brand mower? This one (see link or my pic #9) has been in the family much longer than I have. I was told it was a 1957 model. (no, not the origional motor) It has a cast aluminum or magnesium deck. They definately don't build 'em like this any more!
Just trying to do a bit of research to see if it is worth restoring to origional, if possible.

Never heard of a Hudson but my parents had a mower with a cast aluminim deck in the mid 50's that looked remarkably like yours called a "Cooper Cyclo Mower". I still have their Simplicity walk behind garden tractor complete with sickle mower and a pull behind cultivator. I've allways said someday I'm going to get it cleaned up, painted and all that good stuff them it will probably sit in a shed till the kids have the auction. Lot of memories with that cussed old thing. Frank. ....

Scraped some of the gunk off the tag and could see this is NOT a Hudson, but the name is HAUGHTON POWER MOWER. I'll ask again, have any of you more "experienced" or "seasoned" experts ever heard of one of these before? ....

That antique looks alot like a landscapers hand mower i used to use when I was in college working for a lawn cutting service.
It was god awful heavy. The handle was a reverse direction handle that allowed you to change direction with only flipping the handle over. That said the one I used to use did not have a throttle cable on the handle as yours does, so as not to disallow the flip turn feature. It also came with a metal screen cage for collecting clippings, also very heavy.
I used to call this the "patton" tank of mowers, it could kill several operators from its sheer weight before it could be sent to the scrap heap.

The throttle cable was my own addition a couple years ago. There were 2 small punched holes on the handle already, so maybe there was a control of some sort there when it was new? It really isn't *that* heavy, when I was younger I mowed my parents yard (3/4 acre of hill) with it for a while before the 'ol Case 220 showed up. ....
