I recently purchased a 1992 B7100. The previous owner said he used 10 W 30 Rotella T. I can't find anything but Rotella T 15 W 40. The owners manuel says to use 10 W 30. Can 15 W 40 be run in this tractor with no problems?

You can use 15-40 oil and it will be OK. My friend owns a trucking company and lots of equipment and all he ever uses is Rotella T 15-40. He also has used it in his 1996 Chevy Truck and it has over 140,000 miles and still runs great.
I own a Kubota 5700 and a Dodge Deisel and all I use is Rotella T 15-40. A great oil. ....

I have had excellent results from Mobile 1 10W-30 in my truck and plan on switching my Kubota over after the engine is properly broken in. The manual suggests the first service at 50hrs. Would it be safe to change to a full synthetic then or should I go another round with conventional before switching? ....

The John Deere mechanic I spoke to last month said to go at least 100 hours total on conventional oils in a new engine and 200 hours in a re-manufactured engine. ....

Drankin's info is good, although 100 hrs would be the outside. Normally these smaller diesels will run higher rpms's. If your machine has 75 hrs+ on it, drive out the out dino oil and put in some synthetic. Long term a good idea for any lube need in any machine of any sort. Your location ie: temperature, will dictate the weight of the oil. Match the dino oil wt recommended to the associated synthetic. Mobil 1 and Amsoil top the list.
How many hrs on you rig?

Amsoil may be a good synthetic oil but for what it costs it should be. A synthetic oil that tops the list is Shell Rotella in 5W 40 sold at Wal-mart for 12 something a gallon. Soot control and all the good stuff a synthetic oil should be for not alot of $$$$. ....
