My wifes 1994 Ford Taurus SHO has 140k miles on it and we were faced with putting some money into it or buying a new car. It's hard to find an affordable new car with the kind of performance the SHO has, and my wife really likes this car, so I had a compression and leakdown tests done on it to check out the engine internals. Man-O-man, the compression was 215-225 lbs and leakdown was 5-7% on all cylinders. AWESOME - almost like new. We have run Mobil-1 synthetic oil in it since it's fourth oil change. I continue to be impressed by the performance of these modern synthetic oils.

Those SHO's were peppy for a four door weren't they. If it is in good running shape, you may as well keep it especially if the wife likes it. Taurus's have horrible resale value. My wife's 95 LX is not worth $3000. If you really want to get the best benefit and longest life out of the engine; try installing a bypass filter. ....

By all accounts Amsoil makes good oil, and I've used it in the past, but I'm not convinced it's any better than Mobil-1.

Chief, the performance of the SHO is awesome and it sure is fun to drive. That Yamaha engine is amazing. Ford could never build an engine that good - I don't understand why they consistently make weak engines with less hp per ci than any other manufacturer. This car is only worth about $2k now, but the SHO has inspired an enthusiastic following and it wouldn't suprise me if the value has bottomed out and will actually climb a little from this point on. Especially because ours is a rarer 5-speed model.
